I loved that show, being Scottish myself I watched it when I was wee with my folks.

I remember Eileen McCallum played the woman who worked in the local shop and they had a great snotty vilianess called Sam Hagen who if my memory serves me right had a mysterious end when she vanished into the loch?

I very vaguely remember the theme tune but I was very young when it was axed

I went to Luss a few times.

Yay I remember good ol' "Take The High Road" - right back to when it began on the new ITV afternoon soap slots, along with Emmerdale Farm and General Hospital.

Good old Grace Lachlan, Dougal, Big Morag, and the posh people at the Big House.

Mrs Mack was brilliant as the local busybody (a sort of scottish Edna Birch/Betty from Emmerdale).

I seem to remember a certain young Joe MacFadden being the son of Isobel (?) who owned the corner shop.

A lovely series, what a shame it got axed. Went around the same time as Crossroads, I think. ITV wanted to go a bit more upmarket in those days....look where they are now!!

Only ever saw it occasionally...usually when I was off school sick!

Take The High Road began in February 1980 in Scotland and was also shown in England and Wales (I'm not sure about Ireland). It was very wonderful indeed.

I remember Maggie Ferguson, who was the original village gossip - she used to drive the village bus - and Isabel Blair at the village shop, and the Lady Laird, Elizabeth Cunningham...

And a few years into the run Maggie married "Sorry" Watson and moved away and her place as village gossip was taken by Mrs Mack and Mr Murdoch - who used to disapprove of everything...

And then there was Dougal Lachlan and his mother Grace and Big Morag...

This was the caption displayed at the end of the very last episode of "Take The High Road" (which became "High Road" in the 1990s):

"Since 1980, High Road has been a piece of Scotland in homes across the UK and overseas. Scottish Television would like to thank the cast, the crews and the writers who worked on High Road over the years. HIGH ROAD 1980 - 2003".

Twenty-three years. A shame it ended.

Jimmy Blair was played by Jimmy Chisholm.

Joe McFadden played Gary McDonald, who was murdered and buried in the woods by the evil man who owned the 'big house.'

Having been called "Take The High Road" from the start in 1980, the title was shortened to "High Road" in 1994. I remember Jimmy Blair. The character was in it when the show began, but was later killed off, I think. Jimmy's mother, Isabel, suffered lots of tragedies!

I only remember a nosy woman called Mrs.Mack, and Isabel, the actress who plays her is now on 'River City'

Ma Barton from Emmerdale will always be Trish to me!

I know she's done other things, but that's always the first thing I think of, when I see her in anything else.

She was the sister of Joe McFaddens character wasn't she? They used to air it daily on RTE in the 90's as pert of the daytime soap lineup.

I recognised her but couldn't remember from where, my Mum knew when I asked. I was a kid when I watched it, still did when I was a student. Both my Mum and I thought Davey Sneddon was hot

i wish ITV3 would repeat all episodes starting from the first, instead of half the rubbish they got on atm.

It's the outro theme music I remember, with the credits rolling over soaring airbourne shots of the glens - like Sons and Daughters, it's linked with getting home from primary school just as the 'boring' TV was finishing and kids' tv was about to start.

I remember the programme and the theme tune, humming it now. Used to be on weekday afternoons - brilliant stuff. Wasn't there a character called Doogle?

Dougal Lachlan, he was a crofter and lived with his mother, Grace.

I remember watching the very first episode on afternoon TV in February 1980. Irene Sunter as Maggie Ferguson, the village gossip, made an immediate impact! She was the forerunner of Mrs Mack, who turned up a couple of years later.

Every soap needs a sticky beak!

Mrs Mack has another claim to fame. Interviewed a few years ago about the Acorn Antiques character, Mrs Overall, Victoria Wood said:

"If it was based on anyone, it was based on Amy Turtle or Mrs Mack from Take The High Road."

I seem to recall that one of the very early Take The High Road story-lines was about Isabel Blair, at the shop, expecting her husband Brian's return. I think he'd been in prison.

I'd love to see it all again!

Brian Blair had been in prison. He had murdered a woman he was seeing on the side.

Some aspects of the show are a little dated, but to be fair, the show always had a range of characters age wise and it was set currently, when it was originally aired. Some may critcize things such as Sheila Lamont giving her baby up for adoption because it was born out of wedlock, in 1984! However, I don't think this would have been particularly unusual for someone from a remote highland village at the time.
