I want to make basic bread but I only have self-raising flour and I can't find any recipes.

I've found recipes which require bread flour, salt, yeast and water - am I right in thinking I can omit the salt and yeast and just use S-R flour and water instead, and if so can I just mix it but skip the kneading part if I'm not using yeast? Thanks.

I think a mixture of just flour and water leads to glue .

Here's a bread recipe I found and translated from the american with self rising flour - and there isn't much to it!!!

374g self rising flour
65g sugar
374g beer

Stir these ingredients together....you can also add some grated sharp cheese and herbs, such as chopped chives to this. Dump into a lightly greased loaf pan - larger size. Bake at 180 degrees for 45 minutes. Pour melted butter over top and bake for 10 more minutes. Cool.....to remove from pan....can be served somewhat warm.

Here's a bread recipe I make often with self rising flour - and there isn't much to it!!!
3 cups self rising flour
1/2 cup sugar
1 12 oz bottle of beer
Stir these ingredients together....you can also add some shredded sharp cheese and herbs, such as chopped chives to this. Dump into a lightly greased loaf pan - larger size. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes. Pour melted butter over top and bake for 10 more minutes. Cool.....to remove from pan....can be served somewhat warm.

Here it is in American in case I did it wrong!

You can make flat breads with SR flour. Tortillas, naans, pide etc.
If it requires baking powder then just cut down on it to compensate for the raising agent in the flour.

There aren't many recipes around for S-R bread, eh. I'm going to make beer bread but I'll skip the half cup of sugar because that sounds disgusting. There's a recipe here with a photo, which uses only S-R flour and beer. I'll do that tonight or tomorrow and I'll let you know how it went.

I baked that beer bread (link in the post above this one) and as I lifted it out of the oven it looked so good that I immediately mixed more dough and baked another. The beer gives it a slightly nutty flavour with a hint of bran. I'll definitely be baking it again.
