Absolutely agree ! I think Daniella, Danny, Kieron and Hayley will all have to do something really great to win the show (although my personal favorite is Hayley...she gives it everything she has got!) and last year, it was so obvious Ray was going to win...at least this year there is a little element of surprise still left (if everybody else improves and Hayley stays the same)
Haven't you forgotton someone??? (gary) - easy to do I know he is quite forgettable!!

Have to say I enjoyed last year more as I knew there would be at least one wow performance, although less competition in terms of ability. (compare the jumps this year with Rays russian split jump or Chris Fountains attempt at an axel). However I don't think it was necessarily a foregone conclusion that Ray would win as it was based on a public vote (didn't happen in Strictly last year, the weakest dancer won).

Personally I would always prefer the best dancer/skater/singer or whatever to win, but personality does play a big part, so the best does need to be liked as a personality as well, although the best always attracts the most anti-comments too! Hayley imo is the best at the moment in terms of performance and skating combined and the others only have four weeks to catch up.

I'm not enjoying this year as much as other years, don't really know why. I was a bit like this with the last XF and SCD so maybe the novelty has worn off or the format is a bit stale.

Hayley probably is the best performer this year but I don't find her skating exciting say like Ray Quinn or even Chris Fountain.

Most weeks this year I've recorded it and ffwd through the ad breaks and other superfluous stuff.

I'm bored with Emma Bunton.

It's obvious that she does not like Karen Barber, but the difference betwwen KB and EB is that Karen Barber knows what she's talking about and will give constructive criticisim, whereas Emma Bunton see's herself as some sort of female Simon Cowell, but actually comes across as a female Jason Gardiner, Just plain bitchy!

I am so bored this year I cant even be bothered to watch it half the time. All the last series I have been glued to the tv. For me, no one will ever come close to what Ray Quinn did last year and I think this is why I feel the way I do. Also I think that it could do with freshening up and some new ideas instead of the same format.

I think you only have to look at the lack of posts on the appreciation threads to see that people just aren't so interested this year.

I think it has suffered from the Ray Quinn effect in that it would be pretty hard to find any other celebs with his combination of advantages (champion dancer plus roller skater plus natural talent) and also that the celebs this year don't seem so engaging.

Donal's appreciation thread ran to the thousands with a devoted and still loyal following . The most anyone seems able to muster this year is a couple of hundred.

Dancing on Ice this year has turned into Bitching on Ice. The Queen Wasps of this re-vamped show are Gardiner and Bunton and Nicky Slater is going down that road too. I am sick to death of their nasty comments and attention seeking ways to the extent that I have begun to lose interest.

I love watching the skating and so admire the celebrities for giving it their best shot but the judges, Philip Schofield and the production team are ruining what was once a good show with hype, spin, pontification, acerbic comments which are not constructive to say the least; the only person not guilty of this is Karen.

I personally find it very uncomfortable to watch someone being attacked after they have done their best and have been injured in the process then having to be subjected to negative comments. In my book that is not entertainment in any way, shape or form - the celebs are not professionals and should not be judged as such.

Totally agree with all you say. Proper constructive criticism based on knowledge of what they are doing is fine, we don't want everyone just being told they were brilliant every week, but we rarely get any sort of helpful or insightful comments from the judges these days. They're all too busy following their prescribed roles on the panel.
The best comments each week come from Tony Gubba!!

I'm bored with Emma Bunton.
I'm not suggesting Ruthie was much better, but Emma Bunton has brought nothing to the table.

She's yet to say anything particularly insightful or helpful. She just states the obvious.

One judge commenting on 'performance' is enough.

Maybe the show's become too formulaic? I can't see myself tuning in next series for more of the same. Not unless there is someone taking part that I am already a huge fan of.

I don't feel passionately about any of the current batch of celebs.

Perhaps they should get rid of both Emma and Jason and get Michael Ball in instead.

Yes Michael made a great impression on me too

He said more of value in one night than Emma had said all series.

It's an interesting point, but I wonder about the Ray effect, because I didn't like Ray or enjoy his routines yet I still found last year's show much more interesting, even with Coleen in it.

So I think the problem may be more with the people in the middle, so to speak.

I enjoyed Hayley's routine this week, Emily's was kinda fun, and for the rest it was, well, maybe this bit is good ...

I thought Daniella had potential, but I think they've been giving her terrible routines.
