I wish to gather ideas about what Blu-Ray will blow me away.

What film would demonstrate how spectacularly superb a Blu-Ray can be. I want blistering cinematography or effects, captivating colours, and a stunning sound track to match.

What would do the trick? Star wars? Blade Runner?

Or rather if you do, it will be a knock off job being passed off.

'Pan's Labyrinth' and 'Up' are the best Blu Ray transfers that i've seen so far. They both look absolutely stunning.

I also watched 'Event Horizon' last night which looked exceptional (it was filmed on 70mm film as opposed to the usual 35mm film and you can really tell! It's very sharp).

Mmm, tempted myself to get that then.

All Lord Of The Rings films.I don't have a Blu-Ray player but I'd be tempted to get one when the trilogy is finally released in April, although I would prefer to get the extended versions rather than the theatrical releases.

Saw 'The Dark Knight' on Blu-Ray and wasn't terribly impressed, given rave reviews. Great film, the sound was great, but didn't think it was anything particularly remarkable visually. Saw some other things on Blu-Ray too and to be honest, just don't see what the fuss is about with this format. Maybe I'm choosing the wrong films, but I'd rather stick to great scripts and performances than technical showcases

Another nod for Wall-E. I was stunned at how good it looked.

If you go by the reviews, Star Trek and Forrest Gump.

I've got both. Trek is very nice, but Gump, which most proper review sites say is one of the best quality releases on Blu-ray ever, ain't all that IMHO. It's miles head of the DVD in picture and sound quality, but suffers from too much picture softness on wide shots. Plus there's a fair bit of speckling on the master in places.

Leon and Transformers are also excellent.

Toy Story is out in March and will look superb like all computer animation does , but you need live action and real people to appreciate the extra detail you are seeing.

The restoration of the early Bond films are outstanding so I would go for Dr No if you like classic films.

The Day After Tomorrow is also a good example with a mix of CGI and live action to see the best of both worlds

The ratio changes throughout The Dark Knight due to the IMAX scenes so it may not be the best one to start with

I just watched Apocalypto, and I have to say pound for pound it is the best thing I have seen on blu ray. The level of detail, quality of the picture and sound effects are breath taking.

I dont have a blue ray player myself but Ive been over to my mate who has got a blue ray player. Ive watched a few films at his on blue ray. Transformers 2 does look good even if its a poor film. Last time I watched the 3 and half hour version of Watchmen on blue ray which was amazing and looked great although I think thats only available in America!

Star Trek...Agree,very good
Watchmen...Directors cut..amazing
The Dark Knight..Imax scenes are excellent
I do hope that everybody views Blu Ray with hdmi and a 1080p tv,i know people who moan saying that Blu Ray is over rated and viewing it on an older flat screen non 1080,you can tell the difference straight away.

Although it's not a great film IMO, Pirates of the Carribean at Worlds End is the most impressive blu-ray I've seen so far.
Some of the scenes are breathtaking, almost to the extent that you feel they had blu-ray in mind when they were filming them.

The one film that I'm looking forward too more than any other (not sure why) is 'The Incredibles'.

I saw 'The Incredibles' in HD a few months ago on Disney Cinemagic HD and it looked stunning (and that was only 720p/1080i!). I wish Disney/Pixar would hurry up with the Blu Ray.

UP, The Dark Knight, Matrix Trilogy, Transformers 2.
One Blu Ray that totally blew me away was not a film, but Take That: The Circus live. Absolutely amazing PQ and sound.

Best I've seen is The Day After Tomorrow and Star Trek. There's probably loads better, but that's the ones I've watched.

BR is that good. Some BR transfers aren't so good.

Interesting that you mentioned Take That. Whilst in HMV I was looking to see what music/concerts were on Blu Ray and found just one title. Lou Reed. Do you know if there are many Blu Ray music titles available or haven't they bothered realeasing much on that format?
