Very Tangy TV
Does anyone have any experience with this service?
Sounds interesting, saw it advertised to be sold on Ideal World at 10 tonight and it got me googling. Entirely IPTV with no aerial, dish or cable tv needed, works entirely off Internet connection (even for live tv). Some information on this from people with experience of it would be great. |

looks very interesting
they seem to have their own branded channels. monthly sub is cheap at £10 but the box cost is £130.... it appears to have freeview + some channels theyve come up with since iv'e never heard of most of the channels, and thats saying something since I have european satellite as well.... what worries me is that the channels will be full of 3rd rate drivel, with the odd old hit.. (quite common on these iptv sites). I may consider it if they have something worth getting, or if they can offer channels that are not on freeview that are on freesat. |

It got a load of channels that are available on Freeview, so unless you can't get Freeview, Cable or can't stick a dish up I can't see the point in getting it for that reason.
They seem to have their own channels, but with no info what content is on those channels, ten it a bit of a risk. I was over at a friends place a moment ago and saw the start of the presentation on Ideal world, don't ask why we was on that channel. the on demand seemed as interesting as watching paint dry and the film channel had a film that was from 1960's I think, something called Captain Scarlet and nothing to do with puppets. I agree with Stuntmaster, it will no doubt be full of third rate drivel and paying just under a tenner a month for that is not good value. Maybe if it was a PAYG system it would be a better system. subsciptions are fine if you are going to get a lot of use from it. so far the only pay T.v system that makes sense in payment wise is BT vision. |

I like the idea of the freeview lineup via iptv. agree with noise on this front. and it has a rather nifty way of recording shows. when you set a recording, it records it on their server. Then when you want to watch it, it'll stream it to you. but the price for the box is way too expensive. even the bt vision box isn't that high and it does more. it's one to keep an eye on. if the monthly sub drops and/or the box price drops then i'll consider it, purely for IPTV reasons. there could be some more freesat channels on there in the future... |

In my opinion (having watched tonights presentation on very tangy tv, on Ideal World) where this product is impressive is the recording of your program/s on to their server to enable absolute multiple record functionality, AND I personally think their format for viewing TV from the last 7 days is really good.
I agree the rest was all a bit hit and miss, but I was thinking... How good would something like these two features/functions working in the same way as explained with very tangy TV make Sky TV!!!! It would be awesome. I did like those functions but thought the box was ugly and aged? Last edited by reece1605 : 25-02-2010 at 00:49. Reason: Dpelling |

If what I have seen is the quality of the content then it will not last for long, £10 a month is a lot of mony to pay if you get very little out of it, even TUTV is better value in the content stakes.
It all sounds a good idea and yes some of the features sounds good, but it still need the content and they need to put what contet is avialble on their website. The other problem is we are back to bandwidth, limits and QOS, so it suffers from the same problem that every other VOD system will suffer from apart from BT vision. If it had a PAYG system I would be more interested, I think the subscription format is outdated. |

I'm not entirely convincced by the programme content. We don't receive any of the digital channels we get on sky - i.e. living or home - but I do like the idea of being able to record programmes from the last 7 days. I do feel, however, that this will become the norm for providers of digital tv in the future.

It looks interesting in terms of a product.
Box looks awful though. Channels on offer are not great either. Freeview with added junk. |

See if they'd have gone for a profile like say Freesat lineup + a few basic subscription *channels* as in proper channels like ESPN, movies 24, and other basic subscription channels. then for that price it would take off. then if they added a PPV based VOD with actual content providers, then even if the junk was added, the other stuff would far outweigh the crap. . in short the concept is good, as it's about time we had a universal fully IPTV system outside Tiscali TV / BT Vision. What lets it down is the look of the box, interface and shoddy content. if they resolve that then I am sure it could work out well. |

basically paying for storing everything on there servers, its a the way tv could go, you wouldnt need a hard drive, though the mention of really having to have 40gb download limit and 2mb speed, could cause issues for some people. Though saying that I would give it a try, if I wasnt on sky at the moment. It will be one of those services though sink or swim.

I can't see this taking of in a big way, it's a good idea but It's overpriced and not just the equipment, reduce the sub to £5 and the box to sub £100 and I might try it, the channels are not worth anything.

It's even got a fair use policy which I can't seem to find any info on, probably 100 hrs of saved content, this is going to fall flat on it's face, when Canvas is launched nobody will have any interest in this, thinking about it I don't even think I'd even be interested in it even if they did reduced the sub to £5 and the box to under £100, get rid of the sub and use Ads instead
![]() You need content, if you don't have content, then you are stuffed, even Top up T.v have better content. The one problem is that there is nothing on their website to say what they are showing, they got names of channels, but it could be a load of rubbish. The other problem is, who the hell are they? I never heard of them and people like companies they have heard of. Looking around the net they seem to some sort of American media company, but that is about it. As for a fair use policy, even BT Vision have one of those, I never knew until a friend of mine said about it. |

I suspect the reason there are no listing of content on verytangytv.com is because the content is very poor, I would love to be proved wrong but I can't see that happening, no doubt verytangytv's channels are showing stuff that is public domain, out of copyright.

What could I say, apart from the fact that it seems expensive for what it offers and the content don't look so good. But apart from that I did not know anything about it. |

Idela world had it back on last night so I was told, had a phone call from someone I know who was watching it and asked for my opinion.

Like you all said, freeview with extras. Makes this expensive for what you get.
As for the, new channels added all the time. I am still waiting to see any, they said they update the movies at least once a month unless they are being watched by subscribers, yet to see a update. I sent Tangy TV a e-mail stating what was being said on sites like this one, I received a nice e-mail from the MD, Mr Rich Tuckwell. Stating what I had said he thought was offensive and unjust.I apologised and said it may be because the system is in its infancy stage. I think I was right with my first thought, after receiving the system very very average. I really hope they prove me wrong. |
