Why do the iphones have such a high price on a contract with such expensive line rental deals? I mean £30pm for 150mins and 500text plus £200 for the phone on an Orange 18month contract, when im on Orange with 600 mins, unlimited text and 750mb net for £27pm.

People say its the phone being expensive but there are far more expensive/more advanced phone on the market for free with more mins/texts.

Even so, why not charge for the phone but give the good contracts with it.

if you buy it on pay and go on 02, the unlock it for you for £15, you are then free to put any sim you want in it, and there are some great sim only deals around.

There doesn't appear to be anything like that sort of plan on the Orange web site - although that could be the web site as there seems to be very little choice of tariffs on there.

£450 may seem a lot up front, BUT if you wanted the 16GB on a min 18 month contract (£35*18 = £630) you still have to pay £89 for the handset which = a total of £719! the £450 doesn't seem so bad now.

Well if it's out of your budget look for something that you can afford, you didt mention that though, you just said the tariffs were the only thing putting you off.

Not that much difference.
SimOnly deal @ £20 (600m+unlt txts + internet {may cost more for mobile web}) x 18months = £360 + £450 (16gb SimFree iPhone) = £810 on O2

O2
600mins+500txts+Internet @ £35pm for 18months (£630) + £189 for iPhone 16gb = £819

Vodafone
600mins+unlimited texts+internet @ £40pm for 18months (£720) + £89 for iPhone 16gb = £809

Vodafone obviously seems the most likely option however you could always cough up the £450 for the iPhone and get the £10sim only deal from VirginMobile for 200mins+unlimted txts (no internet) which for 18months would work out at only £630

easy to see it as £30 a month though, dont like to see it the other way

i can afford a £30 a month contract and stretch to a phone cost of like £100-200, not double that and still have a contract and yeah i didn't say i was on a budget, but i also didn't mention i didn't want payg.

Good Afternoon Everyone,

I completely understand your points, it is an expensive handset however we wanted to make sure we gave you the most for your money.

This is why we are the only network that offers unlimited texts with the majority of our plans and have doubled our data allowance specifically for this handset.

If you would like to see what we can do for you, please feel free to contact me using the link below; please include MMM135 in the subject field so that the email comes directly through to my team.

Lol.

The reason why the tariffs are so high, quite simply is because a lot of people are prepared to pay that amount.

Personally I think the Tesco route is by far the best (unless you make a lot of calls & send a lot of texts) ... £20 a month, for 12 months, then you can have it unlocked.

Might be the only network that offers unlimited text with the majority of plans. There is a network that offers unlimited text with all of their plans.

O2 have just updated their plans so all have unlimited texts as well. While it is nice that Vodafone now includes 1GB of data it would be nicer if it was actually unlimited. O2 has no limit, apart from a "fair usage policy".

I'm currently on the £30pm O2 contract and have 8 months left to run. Does anyone know if I could ring O2 and get the unlimited texts added to my contract without having to start a brand new contract?

if you can stretch the extra £5 you get a lot more minutes, but i find it a bit cheeky that they make you spend that little extra for a decent number of minutes.

But in the end it depends on how much you want it, on my last phone I was paying £30 and that was without. iPhone is well worth stumping up for IMO of course.

You should be able to change your tariff after the first 9 months of your contract.

Is the 32GB worth the extra money over the 16GB? Do the apps take up a lot of space?

Is it worth paying £450 for an iPhone to get access to the app store?

A top Android phone with more usable internet (100% more and screen pixels and brighter too) is not £420 unlocked. Extras include full GPS, a host USB, no application barring and an SD slot for and extra 32GB in memory expansion.

A lesser Android phone comes on the market in a few weeks time at under £100. THis can only be good news for those wanting an iPhone.
Think many are better off waiting for the new iPhone to arrive with a competitive screen. Will the old iPhone then cost £200 or less unlocked?

I could be wrong but I expect a newer better iPhone within 3 months.

It was originally £35 per month for the calls and text plus £5 for the internet, I phoned Orange asking to reduce package, as loyalty they reduced the price of my tariff

You forget the mention the price of the phone is £232!

Its cheap rental but you gotta pay for the privilege and also its £20pm in return for £60 credit pm, thats works out as 600 text (not MMS) at 10p each and NO calls or 400 minutes worth of call with NO text, so once you mix in calls, text, voicemail, mms etc its not great. On the plus side I was told by Tesco Mobile staff that their "unlimited" internet on the iPhone only get capped at 1tb unlike Oranges 750mb or Vodas 1gb.
