Nicky and Danny
Patti-Ann

Week 1 last year Nicky said to Ray 'You're doing complex linking movements'...

Yet week after week this year Nicky says to Danny 'You're not linking movements together'...

What exactly is it that Ray was doing and Danny isn't I'm not a skater so don't know what linking movements are or what to look for.

But if Danny isn't doing them, why don't the skating coaches (or Frankie!) teach him, so Nicky can't say 'You're still not doing it'

Iam not a skater but I would assume that he means that each movement or lift he does does not flow together e.g. he’ll do a lift & put Frankie down but then stop slightly before going into his next move whereas he should make everything appear seamless without any stops in between. Iam sure someone else can explain it better than that.

Was just about to post the same thing. I looked like a skated, did the element, finished it, then started skating again...

However, regardless of that, I thought the 2.5 was not warranted and a bit too harsh.

Thanks - I think you're right, it should all flow together

But I still think the coaches should get him to practise doing it, so his score will go up

I think our Nicky wanted some airtime, bless him

I agree with what's been said here re: Danny not linking his moves, but he's far from the worst skater and deserves a score above a 17

I think what's annoying Nicky is he thinks Danny is capable of being far better than he is at the moment.

Even if that is the case, then how about saying he likes Danny's skating and the big lifts and some of the other technical thinags Danny does. Then gradually telling him about the things he does not like and how he could improve instead of getting so nasty. Nicky is a skater himself, and it would so much better for the poor boys self esteem if he started by being positive and perhaps giving him a slightly better score. It was Nicky's score that did not help Danny's overall score. Two stars and a wish works wonders when trying to get someone to improve.

Nicky saying he wants to see Danny doing more in his routine and more big lifts etc. is really a reflexion on the choreography in my opinion. Danny really seems to have suffered from poor choreo from Chris Dean and if the routine is lacking that is not Danny's fault. He has had very mediocre music as well I think. He can only do the best with what he is given.

trouble is Danny seems to be going backwards, his first skate was really confident and strong, whereas the skate to Sherry was really tentative and slow. I think Nicky was trying to give him a kick up the backside. He did say that he knows he can skate better. I guess two (or three ?) skate-offs will dent your confidence. Hopefully the fact he avoided it this time will give him some of his fight back.

I agree with what Nicky is saying (didn't quite agree on his low score though) in that he doesn't link movements, flow over the ice is an issue for him at the moment. Therein lies the discrepancy between he and Ray immediately.
Nicky states Danny is capable of more and he probably is. Looking at his skating and confidence on the ice, his ability to look "steady", he's doing well. He just needs a bit of wow-factor. That can come from the choreo, but it can also come from doing the basics really well and having flow and really giving a performance.

Every week Danny comes out, skates well, but not amazingly. But he also doesn't perform out particularly well. If I can compare him with Keiron's last performance, which was wild, fun and good partnering, as naff as Danny's song may have been to skate to, he could ham it up a bit more!
