Is it me, or is it completely ridiculous how characters in eastenders who leave are dealt with by the scriptwriters? Kudos for bringing back Dr Legg, but as if Michelle wouldnt come back for Mark's funeral! Why dont they just kill her off if she's never going to appear again? Same goes for Dan - You can't just have a character vanish into thin air with sod-all explanation, so kill him off too, have some logic in it. And where's Little Mo? Why does no one seem to know or care where she is?

I also cant help thinking that the scriptwriters are going to have to devise some really silly way of bringing Phil back. I mean, he's on the run for armed robbery, facing 10-15 years in jail. Is he just going to swan back into the vic and order an orange juice, or is he going to be some shady gangland character who stays underground all the time so no one knows he's there??

Little Mp is coming back soon. Thats all I know. But I agree, it is ridiculous. I liked the way they thru in Peggy's name at the funeral too....."the next round is on Peggy". Very kind of her to call

Ian's kids seem to go missing an awful lot too!!! Hes always strutting around in the caf or in the pub and quite often pat is there too...so whos watching the kids?

Oh and another thing. You know the naughty but cute kid who is in the care home...the one Patrick looked after for a while after he caught him trying to break in? What was the point in that storyline? Is anything going to happen there? Are we going to see Patrick and Yolande look after him in the future?

God, I forgot all about that kid! Thats another thing - Storylines just seem to get frozen with no explanantion. A couple of weeks ago Dennis and Sharon were in absolute turmoil over the whole Den thing, and now theyre all fine! Obviously didnt mean very much to them then.

I like eastenders, particularly Den - I think Grantham knows its all a laugh and plays his character superbly - but all logic seems to be suspended at the moment. And if they are planning on bringing back Dean Gaffney permanently then I wouldnt be surpised if there's rioting on the streets

Gaffney is coming back for Martin and Sonia's wedding, and according to insiders it will pave the way for his"sensational return". I can hardly wait.

Seriously, can anyone think of a way that Phil will be able to come back? I really dont think its possible in any plausible way. The only way he could is if the police were to drop all charges against him, and given that he was caught red handed robbing a factory with a gun in his hand, its not likely is it?

I am totally stumped by this one too! Unless...was he charged for the offence?! Once your charged I think there is a time limit of 12 months for the crown to take the case to court and then the person is free from all charge...i dont know if that applies if you've absconded though!!

Im damn sure that Phil would still be liable to be charged, especially as he absconded. Remember Den was pulled by the police within a day of getting back, after an absence of 16 years.

Ive heard that Steve McFadden wanted a years break from the show, and would be coming back, but I dont know when. I like Phil - He had issues with everyone in the square and he was the source of loads of good storylines, but i think the scriptwriters dealt with his exit badly, not thinking about how he could come back. Still, I suppose its not as if he was shot and fell in a canal, eh?

Maybe phil will wake up and we'll discover that the last year of eastenders without him was all a dream. He'll wake up and say "god, I dreamt that I left Walford and the place fell apart...my sister took over the running of the square, Andy made a pathetic attempt to be a gangster, Mark died and Sharon got it on with her 'bruvva" "

No I can't see a way that they can bring Phill back easily, (although they brought Den back from the dead so in theory anything is possible!)

It's this sort of thing that I believe is wrong with EastEnders. at the moment, the scriptwriters don't seem to have a long term plan with their charaters. They were busy making a sensational wayout for Phil, they seem to have forgotten to think ahead if / when they need to make him return. Personally a better way would have been for him to be banged for a year or so, or him just deciding to go off and see Grunt for a while!

And I really can't take Sam's character seriously, The Mitchell family seem to have a fatel flaw, one of them has to be the MR/MISS Big of the community, and so far every member of the family has gone through major personality changes, Grunt, Phil, Peggy and Sam, are totally different to the characters when they first appeard, if fact Peggy and Sam are completely different looks and all.

As for missing characters, although I haven't seen the episode, I guess Michelle saying that she already said goodbye is a fairenough reason, although personally if she had been a careing mum/daugheter/sister she would have been there for the rest of the family.

Dr Legg I think adds realism to the show in the fact that he hasn't been a main member of the cast for a while but he was the local Dr and had dealings with most of the residents at that time, and I believe he would come back for these sorts of occasions, maybe he should also come around christmas sort of time to deliver his cards.

I agree we should have heard more about little mo, even if it was just a quick questin in the vic.

The problem with soaps is the fact that they have to cover the mundane things in life as well as BIG issues. (and after all quite often the mundane things can be the funnier things!) But EE at the moment is only into sensationlism, and not so much reality, maybe though it's about to change. (Dot's storyline for example!) but I can understand Robbie coming back for Sonia's wedding but so should Bianca, and Carol (I bet they don't turn up!) And this paves the way for him to return fine but sensationally!

I feel better for that!

Sam has gone from being a not-too-bright model/lap dancer to someone who, it turns out, has more business acumen than Phil, and is making a success of businesses he nearly ran into the ground. Who the hell would take her seriously? Surely if she went up to the local gangster and suggested a partnership he'd laugh in her face?

I think youre entirely right, there is no long term plan as to the future of these characters. It was good to see Phil get his comeuppance at Den's hands, but having him facing 15 years in jail and going on the run means that, if he does come back for good, I guarantee you it will be one of the most contrived and ridiculous ways the writers have yet come up with.

Sam's pretty far-out too - Where did she suddenly get the nerve to start playing gangsters with a Steve Owen wannabe like Andy? I hope Dennis and Den turf this tosser out soon.

Its fair that Gaffney should come back for Sonia's wedding, but for gods sake let him leave after that. He was a crap character and a crap actor, and easily one of the ugliest blokes on tv.

PMSL But that means he's probably not getting much work elsewhere. Isn't that the usual reason people come back? They leave thinking the world's their oyster and a couple of years down the line we've forgotten all about them.

Deans only exposure seems to be in the tabloids....where theres a lot of photos of him looking really wasted with women (who MUST be drunk otherwise they wouldnt be with him)
