Oh, I don't know, I mean just look at the glittering post-Eastenders careers of Jack Ryder and Sid Owen. They left to "pursue other avenues" - presumably to the dole office.

I think it was a Lhaso Apso (sp?) but could've been a Shih-Tzu, actually the more I think of it I think it's the latter. It was quite cute but I don't really see the point of wee dogs! (sorry to anyone who has a wee dog, I'm sure it's lovely and you love it very much!)

When the tabloids mentioned that Mark was going to die they quoted an EE source as saying that it would be the biggest EE funeral ever. There was speculation of Michelle, Peggy, Lisa, Ruth atc putting in an appearance... all we got was DR Legg???? A minor character at the best. I was expecting it to be a time of revelations and jaw dropping Vic classics. Instead we got Sonia reading the most awful sentimental letter to Martin and Pauline and Whathisname dancing. EE Everyone's talking about it??? Yeah and for all the wrong bloody reasons. Time to sack Berridge!

So it wasn't a huge funeral then ? I had heard the same and was quite looking forward to it. I had heard horse drawn hearse and everyone coming back Peggy, Gwant, Michelle, loads of people .... I am glad I missed it now ... it sounds like it was just a damp squib !

It was a bit on the crap side - Dot quoted from the bible, Martin read a soppy letter then got all gooey with Sonia, etc. Wendy Richard was quite good, but it was certainly not the "event" funeral we were promised. I seem to remember Ethel's being a hell of a lot bigger.

I reckon phil's return will tied in with him giving information which leads to the arrest of Jack Dalton's murderer. By helping the police, he will be charged with a lesser count of stumbling into a factory and coincidentally finding a gun. He will then be given lengthy probation, and community work cleaning the square.

Or maybe he'll be sentenced to be someone's butler (Seinfeld reference).

Hmm, thats not a bad idea, but would the police really go so easy on Phil after Marsden has been trying to nail him for so long? Plus there's no evidence that Dennis did it, it would just be Phil's word, and would Phil want to be known as a grass? But its still a pretty plausible suggestion. Doubt Berridge will go for something so simple though when im sure she could cook up something twice as ludicrous.

But Dalton's murderer was Dennis so that means Dennis would have to leave.

The other thing about that is the police probably aren't loosing much sleep over who murdered Dalton especially seen as it hasn't caused any major ripples in the underworld, and DI ?? Marsden's whole life seems to revolve around banging Phil Mitchel up so .... can't really see him getting away with taking Gus' job off him !

Big poodles are big ... small poodles are small. There are three types of poodles - toy poodles, standard poodles and miniature poodles.

I seem to remember there was a thread on here complaining about how much it was costing, waste of taxpayer's money etc.

What, Mark's funeral, or Ethel's? I agree in Mark's case, particularly as the crafty bugger isnt even dead, he's pretending to be a bent copper in Sun Hill

shame marks ex wife couldnt be bothered either

Forgot about her too - Ruth, wasnt it? And Lisa, since she did marry him. It would have been cool if Nick Cotton had showed up to gloat, since Mark shoved him off the bridge

I totally can't remember how long the Slaters were there while Mark was still in the square. Why I say this is because Garry was focused on quite a bit at the funeral, almost as one of his 'close friends'. Now maybe they were mates but I can't recall - anyone clear this up? I just felt that Garry and Charlie played too much of a part in the funeral but that was probably just cos people such as Michelle, Ruth, Lisa etc weren't there!

They were mates - Garry moved into Mark's for a while

It still wasn't a poodle! It looked nothing like a poodle.

As I have said before, the only way out of the mess the EE writers have got themselves into is a massive disaster - half at least of the cast wiped out. Keep all the Wattz family ( I need to have mini-Den to drool over), maybe Pat and that's about it really.

I can't see how the writers are going to get themselves out of this one, other than as someonelse said, "It was all a dream!" No doubt as usual (e.g. disappearing Ferreira parents) they will make scarcely any effort at producing something convincing anyway.

Shopping Dennis could be one way out (unconvincing, but hey, this is EastEnders, they don't DO convincing ) -- I would bet Nigel H would want out in the next year or so. He could go on the run then

It was a damp squib. James A did quite a good performance, but the 'letter from Mark' was excruciatingly bad, and even Martin's speech in the church was a bit feeble. With all the hype I'd been expecting something more dramatic and grand, but it turned out to be another 'Kelly and Zoe kiss'. Hype in place of decent writing.
