I like a variety of coffees. Some of the Kenco ground ones are nice, as are some of the Taylor's of Harrogate ground coffee; Cafe Noir and Nescafe's Espresso are my instant choices and I also buy the Indonesian beans that I grind myself from a local frou frou delicatessen which I occasionally visit when I feel like a bit of a treat. They sell civet coffee there, but I can't quite get to grips with the notion of handing over £15 for a cup of coffee. So I make do with the Indonesian beans and a slice of their stupendous spnge cake with marzipan and a variety of nuts and Frngelico liqueur. But that's straying away from the point.

But I made a staggering discovery the other day, courtesy of my hairdresser.
Brace yourselves, coffeeophiles

Tesco own brand coffee is far better than any other sorts of instant coffee. It costs £1.50 for a 200g jar. Give it a go. The 100g jar is about 80p, so if you feel ashamed at being seen buying own brand coffee, that size is small enough to hide in your pocket.

Hi,

Sorry you are wrong! Do a Google search on this you will find I am correct! Use a bean to cup machine, you get less caffeine every time.

Instant coffee and real coffee taste totally different too. Like, completely different drinks. I'm amazed instant coffee is as popular as it is. Maybe it's a cost thing.

If I were to buy an emergency jar of instant, it would be Carte Noir.

But for real coffee, nothing beats Illy.”

Hi,

I agree 100% I don't know why you say it takes "10 times longer to make"?

I use a Jura Z5 bean to cup machine, all I have to do is fill the tank, takes same time as the kettle to fill with water, make sure that it has beans, add milk to the milk container 20 seconds, press button and I can have either Espresso or a Cappuccino in 20 seconds.

Link for the Jura if anyone wants one please note thay cost a lot of money

My friends know I am a snob with my Jura

It's £1k in John Lewis, but Amazon keep changing their price on it, ranging from £800-£900. We looked at Jura's, but as we're not really coffee drinkers except for wanting a morning cup (and for after dinner parties) I couldn't convince him indoors to pay out for one!

Either it is 100% self cleaning and an eco tragedy or it is marketing fluff.

I am back to using my cafetiere for with water at 85C.
Am sure if I used beans less than 48 hours old the taste from this would beat that of the Jura.

I do drink an occasional Carte Noir or the not so brilliant Carte Noir decaf instant stuff.

Why eco tragedy, yes our machine is self rinsing, but doesn't take a lot of water ( less than washing up a cafetiere ) and makes fab coffee. Consistent every time with the grind and strength we like it. I still have cafetiere coffee at work, and the machine wins hands down.

I also agree that it takes less time to make a coffee than to boil a kettle. BTW Jura don't do well on reliability, which is why we settled for the Krups.

My vote is for this bean to cup machine - only if you have a large(ish) kitchen though as it takes up quite a bit of space.

Have had it for almost 3 years, making at least 8 cups a day, and it is still going strong.

Where did you get that model from? I wanted to get a KRUPS one but could not find one like that anywhere, so we went for the De Longhi one instead.

I bought it direct from Germany at www.technikdirekt.de. At the time the sterling exchange rate was great so it cost under 1k.

An eco tradgedy in that to be 100% cleaning and hygenically safe clean it would have to use a steam cleaning method.

Almost always black with no sugar for me.

I still happily sleep at night. I compost, recycle, don't buy much packaged food, use a local dairy for milk, grow my own fruit and veg, use low energy light bulbs etc etc etc

Steam cleaning my machine, which takes about 5 seconds, is not going to create an eco tragedy. I could argue that judging by the amount of DS posts you make, you are probably causing more of an eco tragedy by the length of time your pc is on over my coffee machine!

Hi,

Looks like a nice machine, when I bought my Jura I was not able to buy other coffee machines like this. When I told my wife what I was going to buy I got told you are mad, she then watched how it worked and said "buy it"!

If it does the same as the Jura then why spend more, we do use our Jura more or less every day and have around eight cups per day. I also now have the Jura Cool Control which is a small fridge for the milk, so it keeps it nice and cool.

I like the fact you just keep the milk caraffe in the fridge door, and slide it in when needed.

I think it's going to add a lifetime of hot choc and lattes to the hips!

Hi,

It is more or less self cleaning, all I do is press a button or two and add a tablet when it asks it.

So where do you get your beans less then 48 hours old from?

With my Jura I add unground beans to the bean store, fresh water to the tank, milk to the Jura Cool Control milk fridge, when I require a coffee it then takes the required amount of beans for each cup, grinds them and brews the coffee at the correct temperature, if required it automatically froths the milk.

Now wondering why 3 posts per day is fine whereas 4 per day is not?

Weeding needed.

Hi,

I also have had my Jura for 3 years making around 8 cups a day and it also is going strong. I did alot of research before buying the Jura and found no bad reports, plus we wanted a one touch machine, so with one touch I can make an Espresso or a Cappuccino freshly brewed.

I think you will find the Jura is a little bigger than your machine. Even more so when used with the Jura Cool Control mini Fridge for the milk.

I have to say I have never heard anyone say the Jura machines are not reliable. Where have you read Jura "don't do well on reliability"? I did a lot of research before buying a Jura, I also have to say there were not many auto home coffee machines when I got my Jura.

Also Jura give a two year guarantee I don't know of any others to do this, any problem in the guarantee period and they collect and return the machine free of charge.

Hi,

Also if you read one of his other posts he says the following:

Quote:
“"Yes it takes 10 times longer to make ( I have an amazing espresso machine) but the satisfaction I get from starting my day with one is amazing."”

So if it takes 10 times longer that is defintely "not" eco friendly
