Facebook Mobile Number
Is there a proper 07xxxxxxxx number you can text Facebook with instead of the short code that costs 14p a time? I am on O2 unlimited with unlimited calls and texts and would like to do simple things like update status etc. without having to pay for it every time. Is this possible? Thanks.

On O2 it charged me 14p for the first one I sent, and 12p for the second. If there was an actual 07xxxxxxxxx number I could text, it might then come out of my free allowance rather than charging me because it's a short code number...

there is a help section on facebook where you can submit a query they might be able to tell you if there is an 07 number or you could check again with o2 to make sure they are charging you correctly

Texting Facebook on 32665 is included in your allowance on O2. You shouldn't be being charged. Its free to receive facebook alerts on O2. Its free to text Twitter and to receive tweets via SMS (FUP of 600 a month).

Even if there was an 07xxx number for Facebook, it would have to be an O2 number for the OP to be able to send a text to it free. The alternative is to change tariffs to Text & Web. Text 'TEXTANDWEB' to 21300. |

Yes, it's 10p a text when your allowance runs out and you haven't topped up. The initial text was 14p, then the second was 12p. I shall investigate further. I have turned the notifications off for the phone, I only wanted it set up so I could send status updates and write messages to others from my phone.

Just tested it again there, have been charged 10p for sending a status update to the shortcode. Texts to other O2 customers are not being charged at all and are coming out of my allowance on O2 Unlimited. Don't have a data plan as I'm on PAYG and until I signed up to Facebook I never went online on my phone, no need to really.
I used the phones built in Facebook application to see what all it did and I was charged 55p just for accessing it and all it did was load up and show me my FB homepage. I didn't actually do anything on it, just loaded it up, then logged off. Would be quite expensive then to spend 20 mins on it when sitting on a bus unless you had a data tariff. |
