I didn't know that it was their first performance since he died, but I did know that another friend had died during that week. By the way, I wasn't criticising Mel for saying that he had a hard week (I feel extremley sorry for him, losing friends and colleagues at that age is very difficult - I know this from my own experiences). What I meant to say is that most of the public will concentrate on the VT, and I think Mikey's great strength during the first weeks was his jollyness. People might not necessarily realise how much other stuff is going on in his life, and therefore perceive him more negatively.

I think he is in a win or lose situation, if he mentions anything people will perceive him to be vying for the sympathy vote, if he doesn't people perceive him as moody or less fun.

I didn't think you were criticising but I thought I would give a possible explanation to anyone who might not have been aware of what was happening. And if another friend also passed away the same week as Boyzone gave their first performance without Stephen, then I think it's fair to say Mikey must have had a tough week. Credit to him for not going into detail to try to get the sympathy vote.

Just wanted to make sure that you hadn't misunderstood me.

.... and definitely to the bold bit.

Yes, Mikey has been very good about this. He could easily have milked it, but he hasn't.
