Beyoncé has been accused of falsely taking credit for using a Stevie Nicks riff in the Destiny's Child song 'Bootylicious'.

Record producer Rob Fusari has claimed that he originally came up with the idea to use part of Nicks's 'Edge of Seventeen' on the girl group's 2001 hit.

"I remember watching Barbara Walters interview Beyoncé about 'Bootylicious', and she told Barbara about how she came up with the idea for the track," he told Billboard.

"I called Mathew [Beyoncé's father and manager] - which was a big mistake; I got emotional, and I apologised after - but I called Mathew and said, 'Mathew, like, why?'

"He explained to me, in a nice way, he said, 'People don't want to hear about Rob Fusari, producer from Livingston, NJ. No offence, but that's not what sells records. What sells records is people believing that the artist is everything'.

"And I'm like, 'Yeah, I know, Mathew. I understand the game. But come on, I'm trying too. I'm a squirrel trying to get a nut too.'"

Bootylicious came out in '01. Why claim all this shit now? She didn't take credit for the riff. Stevie is actually in the video.

(just found this: )

His name is on the song credit

3. “Bootylicious” (B. Knowles, R. Fusari, F. Moore, S. Nicks) 3:28

The music industry has been shady for years she isn't the only artist to 'steal' stuff from other artists and she won't be last.

I have to say, after someone posted in another thread the lyrics to 'Smack into You' and how it says Beyonce co wrote 'Smash Into You' when really she only changed 10 words or something, it has made me more... cautious of when artists claim they've co-written stuff.

I'm no Beyonce fan but I can't see what the fuss is about if everyone's been credited.

Umm...because he was asked about the background to the song in an interview? The DS article makes it sound as if he's thrown a wild accusation out of the blue, but it was part of a bigger interview, and I think he's actually quite philosophical about the experience now.

The Stevie Nicks sample was only supposed to be a temporary arrangement, as he originally wanted to re-record the riff himself (it's only one note, after all) - but Beyonce's manager insisted on using the sample and hence splitting the songwriting credits even more. I imagine he wanted to keep the Stevie Nicks connection to make the track appeal to a broader pop/rock audience, maybe?

As LemonPledge said, this "co-writing" scam has been used by successful artists/management to leech off the talents of lesser known songwriters for decades. Elvis was a classic example. Col Tom would only let him record a new song if he got a 50% songwriting credit.

Not even that many. She changed "smack" to "smash" and got a writing credit. Every other lyric is identical in the two songs.

I don't think Beyonce should make you suspicious of every artist though. Beyonce is just really shady when it comes to this and there are numerous stories about her. It's unfair to other artists who actually do love writing and probably contribute a lot to songs where they are listed as a co-writer.

People don't seem to understand how the music industry works. If you change the melody to a song or rearrange words you get a credit on a song. Like it or not, that's the way it is. I agree with da3bool, take her to court or shut up.

She has never claimed to write songs by herself -

'I have writers that I write with, or I have writers that will send me a full song, and I'll rearrange it - change the second verse, change the melody, keep a chord that I like, and recreate it. Just depends. I might bring in whoever I think can help the song. When I have just a beat it's the most fun for me. I'll get somebody to play whatever I hum for the bassline. So I'm creating a whole track with my voice.'

I just found this quote very intresting and from Beyonce's past form this seems to be the image that her managment want the public to believe.

Obviously it makes one suspicious with about how much input these stars really have, but I try to give other artists without previous form the benefit of the doubt!

Beyonce is also being accused of stealing one of the outfits for her Videophone video

http://cocoperez.com/2010-02-17-beyo...over-underwear

Beyonce seems to be a lawsuit magnet as of late.

First her House of Dereon gets sued, and now this!

Underwear manufacturer Triumph has filed a lawsuit against Sony for copyright infringement, claiming she wore an unauthorized copy of Bulgarian designer Iskren Lozanov's lingerie in her Video Phone music video.

Sony argued that the design was inspired by Picasso and any other similarities are just coincidence.

Unfortunately for Sony, the judge wasn't buying their crappy retort and says they did in fact copy Lozanov's original concept.

Sony has since consulted Beysus and will most likely appeal the decision.

We do see a lot of similarities especially in the glasses and the bangles. And considering that Iskren's design was showcased on September 23rd in Milan, which was BEFORE the premiere of the video, Sony has a lot of explaining to do.

What do U think? Coincidence or deliberate copy???
They do look pretty similar especially when you look at how the designer accessorized his version and how Beyonce did hers!!!

In that case, a load of high street stores should be sued for copying designer stuff.

If a copy was that similar then they usually do...plus this designer is probably looking for some kind of recognition for something Beyonce and her team are taking credit for...and are trying to pass of as a mere coincidence!!!

I love how a fan's only defence of this is basically, 'others are no more than common thieves so its OK for Beyonce to be one'...and even so doesn't detract from the fact that the origional innovative Diva totally ripped someone off...this isn't the first time, and I bet it won't be the last!

Now now don't turn this into a Britney Vs Beyonce thread to try a deflect from the nasty goings on!!!

Beyonce got into this mess all by herself...Britney had nothing to do with it, got some dirt on Britney create your own thread!

Plus (not that it matters) I actually like Beyonce's music I own all of her albums and have seen her on tour more times than I've seen Britney!

Whatever, every thread you start regarding her is negative! How about the one where Beyonce worked harder than everyone else?! You constantly try and put her down...oh well...

I wouldn't bash Britney, cos I doubt she knows what day of the week it is...so is hardly worth criticising, until she can finally look after herself again!

I forgot its OK to mock those suffering from mental illnesses...maybe tomorrow we can mock those with AIDs or Cancer!!!

There are certain things that don't sit well with me about Beyonce's career and since this is a music discussion board it seems the most appropiate place to air them...I thought I'd get more of a discussion about this (especially from her fans) but all I got is 'its OK to steal and mock those with illnesses'!

Can anyone tell me what the story was with 'If I were A Boy'? I've just read she stole the song and pretended she wrote it only to then backtrack after the real writer came forward! is this true?

She doesn't solely write her music anyway... she has a flippin' team behind it all.

You can't steal a song. It's impossible. The producer of it gave it to Beyonce. She doesn't actively seek these things out, she's a busy woman. She'll get a demo or whatever and they'll put something together. She'd get credit for the composition of the final product, which she did, but in a production capacity due to the lawsuit. She doesn't always write songs word for word, she often does the harder bit, which is the melody, harmonies and the overall production.
