My 860 upgraded to version 11 by lunchtime today. Hope this will cure the electronic Alzheimers disease in my timer list....

Reply from Sony...
Hope this helps others...
Thank you for your recent e-mail received on 02/03/2010 07.03 AM. The update V1.01.11 rectifies the following: - Guide showing "no event information" - Loss of single program timer events. - Unresolved timer events when series has episodes remaining. I hope this information is of some assistance. If you have nay further enquiries, please do not hesitate to contact me. Yours sincerely Customer Information Centre SONY UNITED KINGDOM LTD Colin |

Excellent, Colin. If this is effective it'll be just what I was hoping for: I was seriously considering scrapping the awkward
b*****d! Cheers Mike |

I upgraded my firmware from 08 to 11 last night, left it out of standby and tuned into BBC1. Came down this morning and checked the update was taken successfully - which it was. I put the box into standby and went out. Came home and pressed the power button into wake up the box and nothing. The clock was displaying the correct time, the standby/power button on the box didn't work either. Had to recycle the power. it hadn't recorded anything either. Once the box had powered up it started to record what it was meant to record. Hope this is a "glitch"

Great, same problem this morning. Sony in a Coma. Written to Sony to find the solution. Anyone else have a problem with their RDR-HXD560 slipping into a coma when put into standby overnight?

Does this range of recorders update if left in standby? I know some devices 'wake up' at say 3am or so to see if there is an update. I ask because my parents have a 560, but they only use it occasionally. I know their unit has the update option enabled, but I suspect they haven't used it for the past few days so if it has to be brought out of standby and tuned to BBC1 I guess their one has missed the update.

Just spoke to my parents and talked them through going into the menus to find out if their machine had updated. It had even though it had been in standby for the past week.

Jumping to weak signals
Hi,
I re-tuned my RDR-HXD560 recently due to the switch over and since doing this I have had problems with it jumping to weak signal channels. When I set it to record BBC1 for example on channel 001 it jumps to channel 819. Channel 819 is a weak signal and so it doesn't record. Similar happens with other channels. The box also switches on to one of these channels when it has been left in stand by on the strong signal channel. My box seems to have downloaded the latest firmware v1.01.11 CE, and I wonder if this has a bug and is responsible. I have tried hiding the alternative channels but this makes no difference. Can anyone help with a solution? I am hoping Sony bring out a new version of the firmware without the bug very soon. Thanks, Mecamero |

Thanks, Mecamero I believe this has been discussed before in other threads and seems to be a common issue in some freeview terrestrial PVRs... Can you not simply delete these weaker channels from the channel list? |

Don't know how to delete channels
Hi,
Thanks for the reply. I have looked to try to delete these channels, but can find no way of doing it. There is certainly nothing in the manual about deleting channels, and I can find no way of doing it through the menus If anyone knows how to do it, please let me know. Mecamero |

Mecamero ![]() Perhaps an approach from another angle? How strong are your "strong" signals? (for example) Are they full scale green for both strength & quality? (they should be - in the "technical information" section) If they are not, then that is highlighting a potential problem with your antenna, it's downlead into the house or any extension patch cable to your TV. Or, indeed, the antenna itself. Is it wideband? If you are close enough to your local (main) transmitter, perhaps a specific group antenna (with more focus) would work better in this case? (weakening the already weak alternate muxes seen...) As far as I am aware, as long as there is a distinctively strong set of multiplex carriers coming in to the box, during an automatic tune, it will eventually ignore any weaker ones and will set up the EPG based on the strong ones alone. If the levels of the strong to weak are closer however, what will happen is what you are seeing.... (and I think this holds true no matter what make of Freeview box you are using...) |

Thanks for the reply. I don't believe my aerial is the problem, I could change it, but it has been working on Freeview for 3 or 4 years without a problem. The signal from the strong channels which get assigned to 001, 002, 003 etc shows full scale green for both strength and quality. I haven't checked the strength and quality of of the 800 series channels, but they must be weak as they are unwatchable, with sound and picture breaking down completely every couple of seconds.
This problem has only occurred recently, and so I do believe it is the firmware update. |

I finally managed to solve the problem of my box jumping to weaker signals. I found the answer on the Sony website:
http://sonycic.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/...ted=1267177443 This gives a set of instructions to follow as part of the installation of the recent firmware update. The instructions include restoring factory settings before retuning. After I had done this, the problem went away. Just thought I'd post the answer in case anyone else has the same problem. |

Is there anyway of upgrading the firmware of our RDR-HXD860 manually?
Our digital reception is poor and will remain so until 2012. At this moment in time our recorder is almost redundant as we use our Sky HD+ box to do all our recording and the Sony hasn't even been tuned/re-turned in years. |

Engineering Channel Over-air Download Schedule ..in other words, the straight answer to your question is a big fat no from Sony I'm afraid... I've gone through that loop several times sadly and Sony are very uncooperative when it comes to manual upgrading. |

I would suggest that you hook it up, re-tune it and have it available for if they repeat the OTA broadcast in the future then keep an eye on this site periodically...

I've gone through that loop several times sadly and Sony are very uncooperative when it comes to manual upgrading. They are pathetic when it comes to this sort of thing. Previously I had an RDR GX7 which needed a firmware update to get it to work with later DVD-R's. I even had a PDF field notice about it rfom Sony US btu Sony UK said update wasn't possibel and to take it for repair. In the end someone from the US send me the firmware as an ISO which worked perfectly and fixed my problem. So much for NOT possible! I agree with the advice here - keep an eye on the schedule and hope it gets repeated. You could try to escalate in Sony UK but I got nowhere doing that. |

There is a repeat OTA broadcast of the v1.01.11 software starting this coming Monday for whoever missed it...
http://www.dtg.org.uk/industry/download_schedule.php ...runs through till Thursday the 15th... Completely forgot about this thread ![]() Our aerial is pointing at the Bluebell Hill transmitter (we are half way between Canterbury and Whitstable on the wrong side of a hill so can't get a good signal from Dover either). As it is, we need to buy another new aerial as the current one has started to break apart (less than 5 years old). Anybody know if this is any good: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=221124 |

Sony RDR-HXD860 recording problem
My Sony RDR-HXD860 has the problems listed in your posting. The machine has update enabled but has firmware version 1.01.10. When is version 11 being broadcast again and how do I ensure my machine receives the update? Thanks, Simon Quote:

I suspect this won't be re-broadcast due to this being an older model (but a very good one nonetheless). My parent have one that didn't update to version 1.01.10 I tried to get a CD image of the update from Sony (who told me it wasn't possible however I know that that isn't the case). I went back to them many time but all they would say is pay for a 'repair' They then denied any knwoledge that there had ever been an update for this machine - also incorrect.
My parents machine updated to 1.01.11 when it was broadcast so the problem went away. You could try calling their customer services number quoting the email from Sony here, (which should prevent them claiming theer was no update) and ask for it on CD. |
