Connecting with Bluetooth
TeeGee

I have just plugged a bluetooth USB connector in to my PC. Unfortunately Windows XP does not seem to have any drivers to make a connection to a mobile phone.

It would be so much easier than connecting a fiddly USB cable. Does anyone know where to find a XP driver to connect with Nokias?

A google search seems to show several but specific to Toshiba laptops!

Did the adapter not come with any software? In my experience (and for my sins I have to work with the wireless protocol from hell quite a lot) they all do.

What make and model is it?

What's fiddly about a usb cable? Stuff will transfer slower over bluetooth, you'll soon go back to the cable.

Its, er , unbranded! Mean't to be plug and play.

USB cable? Have you ever tried plugging one in to a Nokia 5530!

Have you tried updating the driver in device manager.

Bluetooth drivers and connection software come with Nokia PC suite / Ovi Suite.

Just wish I could find them!!!

Later:
PC Suite says this is loaded:

Bluetooth stack:
Microsoft Bluetooth stack
Version 5.1.2600
Build 5512

The phone pairs with XP however neither OVI not PCSuite wil actually recognise the phone. I have tried both a 5530 and a 6730 without success.

I consider myself reasonably capable at this sort of thing but baffled by this one.

Can you describe what you do? (After you have paired the phone with the PC and set it as authorised.)

Incidentally, it should be very easy to use a USB cable. Just plug it in then either:
Select mass storage mode, after a few seconds of installation the phone will appear as a removable drive.
Or if PC Suite has already been loaded, select PC suite mode and you will also be able to do sync, backup and messaging.

Thanks for all your help but its looks like back to cable. For those unfamiliar with the 5530 the cable slot has a tiny cover which is a real pain to pull out even with good fingernails.

I have unloaded everything and started again from scratch with same result. The PC recognises the pairing but neither the OVI nor the PC Suite will recognises the phone via Bluetooth though both are fine with USB.

Thanks again all.
