Is Todd leaving because of his realife split with Sarah
donnaBC

i was replying on another thread trying to work out the real reason for Bruno (todd) leaving then a thought came to me
At first i suspected bruno maybe pursuing other roles while his street charector is on a roll

Then i though maybe it is to do with his realife split from Sarah (i forget her real name) it must be painful for him they were an item for well over a year then split and she is now seeing his screen brother.

if i was in a job and my long term partner left me for someone who i work with and i had to have my nose rubbed in it i would want to have another job
wouldnt you let me know your views

I really dont think that is the reason. Maybe he just wants to do other acting roles!

It must be really boring playing the same role for years!

I doubt it, I think they split quite a while ago, eight months or so, so I do really think its a case of him expanding his acting career after being given a really big storyline to show what he can do.

I think it's more likely that he isn't too happy about playing a gay character. As a straight man, I would not be too concerned about playing a role involving a gay kiss, but to have to continue the storyline playing a gay character for four or five years may not be the most ideal of situations.

I think all the different elements have probably played their part in his final decision. This storyline has given Bruno a chance to shine and he's quite high profile at the moment, so what better time to announce to TV execs that you'll be available for other roles in a few months time?

I have no idea whether things are fine between him and co-stars Ryan Thomas and Tina O'Brien, but I can imagine it might still be a little awkward at times, so I can see a fresh start elsewhere being preferable in his eyes.

As for being typecast, I suppose it depends on how comfortable he is in the role and what he wants to do with his career. If he were to continue playing Todd for any length of time, there is the risk that he'd end up only being offered that type of role (Scott Neal comes to mind here!) although I personally don't think the acting side of it would bother him at all... It's just a shame that he can't be persuaded to do another six months as Todd as I suspect the story is all going to be very rushed now, to gear up to his exit.

Much rather have him stay than whiny Sarah or boring Jason!

It's all part of the job when you're an actor, having to take jobs and do things you wound't in real life.

Where would Dustin Hoffman be if he'd sai, 'I'm not dreesing-up like a woman'. If it was the case that the gay angle bothers him, it could seriously damage his further career if parts call for certain actions.

If an actor doesn't like the part being offered, he doesn't have to take the job and he probably won't audition for roles that he's not interested in playing. Dustin Hoffman accepted the role in Tootsie because he must have wanted to play that role. If he didn't, he wouldn't have accepted it. But it's a different matter, if an actor is already playing a role and the writers decide to change his character. I think he's perfectly entitled to leave the show if he doesn't like the character he now has to play. But Bruno Langley mustn't have been bothered about playing this role, if he was, he would have objected to it at the beginning and refused to play it. But perhaps now he may well think that if he carries on playing this role he may become typecast. But who knows what thoughts are going through Bruno's mind and unless any of us actually knows him personally, we will probably never know the real reason why he's decided to leave the show.

I heard on the news a few days ago (and I was pretty stunned by his accent too - wouldn't have believed it was Todd) that he was leaving cos he was worried about being typecast now hes portrayed as gay.

To be honest, I don't see what they can do with his character next - he's worked in the corner shop, there are now three people running weatherfield general and it looks like Sarah is about to lose the sprog. It's a way out for him and Carl.

It wouldn't surprise me if he had already been offered another television/film role that he wants to take. The problem, is that 'soap' actors tend not to do very well on the whole after they have left their shows. So perhaps, after a couple of theatre tours, he will want to return....if Granada want him then!

I also hear that the straight man who plays Will in WIll and Grace is raking it in....

If the writers do use that as a way out for Todd and Carl then would Martin run the whole hospital by himself?

I don't see how he possibly could. I mean, who would look after the place when he's at his hair-dyeing appointments?

Agreed that it's probably a combination of factors. His agent might well have advised him that, with such a high profile, if he's going to go, he might as well go now, and maximise his chances of getting work elsewhere.

And as regards his character 'changing', I thought Bruno always knew that Todd would eventually come out as gay...

I'm sure the poor lad finds it a lot more difficult having to kiss an ex-girlfriend than another actor for whom he has no romantic feelings (more fool him!!!)

Re: Tootsie, Dustin really really wanted the part, seeing it as the ultimate challenge, playing a woman, but making her realistic and sympathetic.

Tootsie also happens to be one of my fave films of all time. "That is one...nutty hospital."

Isnt it really a symptom of our insatiable desire for gossip and our continued support for a gutter press that we cannot believe that Langley just wants to capitalise on his current high profile. We seem to want to believe it is something more 'sinister' that motivates him. Either he doesnt want to play a gay character or that he is jealous of Ryan Thomas and Tina O'Brien.

As far as I understand he knew from day one that Todd would be gay and that his romance with Candice (she wanted to have sex, he didnt) and his romance with Sarah was all part of the set up. Im sure that the producers and Daran Little discussed every possible aspect and the inevitable press interest with him before the storyline was embarked upon...

Didn;t the actors who play Katie and Andy in Emmerdale also date in real life? I agree it must be difficult for them, especially now Tina (sarah) is dating the actor who plays Jason (todd's brother).

He's a professional actor. I'm sure he couldn't give a rat's ass about playing a gay character, any more than actors care about playing murderers, trainspotters etc. Not that there's any comparison between gay people and murderers, before anybody jumps on me! I'm just making the point that this is make believe and any actor worth his salt would relish such a good role - whether he could identify with the character or not.

Did he say he was worried about being typecast now he's portrayed or gay, or did he just say he was worried about being typecast?
