Do you follow the storage times for milk?
Bought a 2 pint plastic bottle of milk last Friday.
It had today's date as the Use By date, and the label says "ONCE OPENED USE WITHIN 3 DAYS". I opened it on Monday, and used the last drop this evening, in a cup of tea I have just finished, and it was fine. So much for use within three days. Would you have kept using it, or would you have thrown a third of it away, after the 3 days were up? |

Keep using it until it starts to smell funny.

When you start to see little white bits, floating on top of your cuppa, it's time to get rid.

As soon as it smells funny or the tea tastes odd, then it's gone

Neither the tea test or your smell lies

Anyone who needs a date on a carton of milk to tell them whether or not it's off shouldn't be allowed out on their own.
What would such a person do if the milk had been left on the window ledge in the summer and gone off, yet was still in date acording to the label? |

Its this new breed of bacteria fearing people that dont use their own senses. They have obviously never had gone off milk.

I never follow this and have never had any problems, Cravendale milk lasts at least a week, which is good for me as I don't really have milk in anything other than tea.

If it smells funny and then I test a tiny bit by heating it up, if that splits then it's off.

I once drank a pint of milk that was almost a week out of date and it was still fine.

Milk I get from Tescoes(full cream) starts to go off after about 9-10 days. I just use the smell test, never really check the dates.

I never look at dates, it's better to use your common sense.
Just about everything lasts longer than is stated on the packaging. Good storage is more important than a date. |
