Oh dear - this sounds like another case of a celeb trying to do something he/she isn't ready to do. 'I didn't have a clue how to land,' he says. Course not - it takes years to learn how to do jumps properly!

He split his lip but he could have cut his head open!

I'm a great T&D fan but I don't go along with these 'spectacular' moves (headbanger, anyone?) just to make an exciting show.

Well, no, the not having a clue how to land is in reference to the fact that he over-rotated by mistake on this occasion and so ended up the wrong way round - they won't have prepared him for landing that way for obvious reasons!

T+D clearly think he's capable of trying it (though two in one routine does seem to be asking a bit much of someone! ) They had Kieron doing unassisted jumps before any other skater this year (as far as I can recall anyway), so they seem to be quite ambitious with him generally.

The headbanger is a bit different in that it's almost all for show, and requires very little real skill (though quite a bit of bravery...) for the celeb. (Unless it's the male celeb doing it, in which case I agree, its a terrible idea, and asking for trouble!).

Surely if they wrote up in the papers everytime one of the celebs - or even pros for that matter - fell in rehearsal for doi, there wouldn't be a day with same "headlines?"

When have they done that??? Celebs fall all the time. The only time they papers mention it is when they actually end up injured, as in this case. Or when they get ill.

I just hope he's OK and will be ready for tomorrow.

Oh why can't the journalists at least get the story right. An axel is a jump and not a spin.

And did he really say 'half axels' - there really is not such jump since an axel is 1.5 rotations. Half of that is 0.75 of a rotation - that is not something anyone attempts to do on purpose.

So did he mean a 3 jump (which could technically be thought of as a third of an axel since it takes off forward and is a half rotation?) or something else or an actual axel or did he mean an axel type jump - sometimes the Americans in particular call half jumps which are actually one rotation landing on the other foot.

Ah well guess I'll have to wait til sunday night to see.

A half axel is an axel jump with 1 rotation, as opposed to 1.5. So you end up forwards, rather than backwards. Or so says wikipedia! It appears to exist, and presumably T+D haven't just created it on the spot.

Basically, it seems to be sort of what Chris Fountain ended up doing when he was trying to do the full axel on the show.

It's an Americanism then and a fairly silly idea. Landing forward is far more dangerous than landing backwards. why can't they teach him a decent toe-loop or a loop instead of an unrecognised (in competition ) jump just to get the word axel in there.

I think Chris got more than one rotation but he did two foot the landing.

i shall wait to see what Kieron actually does.

Probably best - for all we know the whole thing might have been changed after the fall anyway!

The contestants can only really do what T+D tell them to do.

Exactly, it's not the contestants fault if they are given something they cannot attempt (not that I'm saying this is the case here). I certainly hope this isn't the same scenario as in the frog lift, and they get him to attempt something that is dangerous and not well executed (ergo he loses marks unfairly), meanwhile he could have done something less dangerous and executed it well (with a little bit less wow factor).

Ugh, the frog lift! That annoyed me so much! I thought that was an example of where the show really failed, and we lost someone too early because of it.

Yep I agree, Sunita could have been really good. Her failure in the frog lift was a weird reason to send her home (far too ambitious so early in the competition). I will be really annoyed if they get Kieron to do something really difficult to do, he then fails, and they then mark him severely down for it. Meanwhile someone else will just do a little hop on the ice, but execute it will and gets marked up for it (and I'm not even an avid Kieron fan)

Actually the whole program is starting to annoy me now that the celebs have to do what T & D say regardless of whether they can do it or not or whether it suits them. An example being the week Gary was told the week before about being boring and they then gave him the most boring routine the next week - not his fault. And of course the frog lift.
