When you say "manually put in the local frequency" I assume you mean that you are selecting the value 44 by scrolling through the available frequencies, and not pressing the "4" key twice!

Once you have arrived at the value 44 you need to wait whilst the box tunes in all the channels it can find on that frequency. This could take a few seconds and possibly up to a minute. Once it has finished you should then see the picture in the corner of the sreen and hear the sound of one of the channels. If you move away from 44 before it has finished tuning then you may be left with some or none of the channels tuned in on that frequency.

As far as seeing the "Add channels" option is concerned, I can say from my own experience that sometimes I am shown this and other times not. I believe that normally all channels will be tuned in by default and it is not necessary to add channels.

I haven't worked out what logic the box uses to decide whether or not to show this option, but I believe that if it is not shown then all available channels will have been selected.

If you don't have the option, it probably means that 44 is already tuned, or that there is no signal there. Presumably when you have the tech help menu set 44, it is showing a good signal there.

Thinks I was selecting 44 with the left /.right buttons
.there seems to be a strong signal at both 44 and 54
i will try it the suggested way and get back.

Done as per instructions but as the problem it intermittent
it will take time to be sure. I have another box with the older software on it and never had any picture break up problems with it. so I suspect that there is something else afoot here.

worked ok for a few hours .but still breaking up despite strong signal . already tried another power supply and hd format/swap to cure this problem previously.

I was getting intermittent picture breakup and I noticed that when I moved the wires on the multiwire connector between the power supply and the main board, the problem became worse or disappeared for a while.

I concluded that there must be a poor or faulty connector somewhere. In the end, and after great difficulty, I managed to remove the connector completely. I checked as best I could for any loose connections but found none.

Since putting the connector back I have had no further picture breakup.

Might try some switch cleaner on the connector block
and see what happens.
Shame Thomson stopped updating this software on this model as on the whole it is very good .maybe launch an online campaign to prompt Thomson to sort it out

I think there's probably only about 100 of these in use in the UK ! Great PVR though most of the time.

I know of three in use. Perhaps we should start a census!

You might want to consider having it repaired. I believe some other DHD4000 users have had good service from http://www.digifixltd.co.uk/

If your PSU is the Samsung model PSSH370603A REV 2.0 then according to this site http://www.satcure.com/gds200.htm it is the same PSU as is used in the Grundig GDS3000 digibox.

It might be cheaper to try and pick up one of these boxes on ebay and then swap the power supplies.

Already tried another psu "from my other working fine model"
The PSU which is fitted has had the caps changed.
Strange that when I swapped over my other box It shows
a stronger signal from same source

Still using mine Un-upgraded, and so reliable. I am dreading the Switchover.

My DHD4000 is broken since the switchover - bad blocking on BBC1 and the other channels on that multiplex. My other box a Thomson DTI1000 has gone the same way.
