What's with all the old music?
I'm sick this series of all of the songs the couples are dancing to!
They're so old, I've barely heard any from the past ten years so far - they all seem to be 50s/60s/70s - even the tunes from the 80s are sounding current in perspective! Yes there are plenty of classic hits, but get with the times DOI. |

This is the second comment ive read like this tonight, and im sorry to say I find it kind of ignorant to be honest. If you can't appreciate songs from the past then I really pity you. Why should they only play current hits? If they did they'd soon run out.
Remember Dancing on Ice is a family show. Older people watch too. Why shouldn't they hear songs from their youth too? |

i agree with the op...kind of anyway...i know people will like the old songs but having 1 modernish song in a show is not great..and its usually hayley that gets the most recogniseable songs....

I think DOI have a good mix of old and new. All the best were oldies tonight. My ears are still recovering from that version of Don't Stop Believin.

Music doesn't have to be all about what happened in the last 10 years for the kiddies who are ignorant of anything else.
Music is music with no age limit. You want kiddie pop go listen to MTV. Utter ignorance! |

It's not ignorance, I am aware of and enjoy plenty of songs from the 60s onwards.
I just want variety, the ratio is not fairly stacked this series is all I'm saying! (And as an aside, I'd like to hear a lot less country music in the show). |

That'll teach them to give Daniella country music - this isn't the good ole U S of A!

yeah, and what about that ancient "Bolero" thing, Jayne and Chris should have skated to Duran Duran or Spandau Ballet for their Olympic routine (just kidding)

![]() (heehee, I kid)I like listening to the oldies as much as the new ones, usually it's a good, eclectic mix of tunes but agree the ratio of old/new music was a bit off last night. |

I'm sick of them too. Not only has the songs sucked but so the standard this year. How weird!
I heard so many old songs I thought the themed night was a waste. Let's have a night devoted to the 70's. Oh hey, let's throw more 70's,60's and 80's songs in too in the whole series. x_x |

I agree about the music-but you are not allowed to speak against the power of Hayley on here!
. I think Hayley was given a good song (although for some people it might have been played too much, and they already hate it), and she should also have skated earlier in the evening. It's not fair that she always skates towards the end. Anyway, I agree that some of them get rubbish music. Danny's song for instance, was again rubbish, it made it difficult to produce a very smoth routine (which he did by the way). I hate the western based songs and themes (both Daniella and Mikey had them this year). I don't mind which decade a song is from as long as it is a catchy. Gary's song was another rubbish one, I know it was supposed to work with the choreography, but it just didn't work for Gary. |

That's a bit unfair, I think criticising the fact that she gets good music or good routines should be absolutely fine. I think it's not nice if her or any any of the candidates get criticised for personal reasons

Sorry but there are a few people on here that just can't/won't except that Hayley is not everyones cup of tea. It's getting boring now them leaping to her defensive. As for the music I have mentioned before that some of it seems hard to skate too? Doesn't flow along-so hopefully this week will see better choices!
![]() I hope so too. Routines look so much better if they can flow with the music. I hate the stop + start types, where they jump around on toe picks and point at each other. Ray's song "Nothing's gonna stop us now" last year was one of the really good songs (IMO) that really worked flowing-wise (not just because Ray skated to it, but because the song seemed to work - if this makes sense ).

I'm happy with the mix of tunes, but I'd agree that the distribution between couples has been a bit poor.
Danny hasn't had a song from after 1965 yet this series (apart from Tiny Dancer, hardly an up-to-the-minute choice) and I think all the mid-tempo pop is a bit of a waste on a guy who looks like he should be skating to hard rock and up-tempo pop. Conversely, I think Emily's had all the best modern numbers, with Taylor Swift and Alexandra Burke and Gwen Stefani to her credit. Any of those could have gone to one of the younger lads. I reckon overall Kieron's had the best tunes, but that's cos I love the Buzzcocks and Paolo Nutini

Agreed there has been a definitely radio 2 feel to it which reflects the family audience expected. I guess I can understand why young people might feel they want to hear more current music, but I know all the 60s stuff which was before I was born, so I don't see why older classics should be so unknown to people even if they are too young to remember them originally. I watched the Olympic gala at the weekend and it was interesting that lots of the current top skaters chose older tracks.....Billie Jean, Yesterday etc. Maybe current music trends just don't generally make good skating music? Another thought is that maybe some of the current music is more expensive to use...presumably they have to pay a licence to use what they do. Anyone know? |
