Last night was very poor in general. But Danny and Frankie stood out for me. That look of utter joy on his face was very touching. He's not the best technically but he tries so hard. His skating was really good last night and I was really surprised at his toe-loop, landed it very cleanly and held his position well. Very enjoyable to watch this breakthrough.

Apart from Danny's breakthrough there was little to cheer about last night, all he needed was someone to take the time to explain why the judges were marking him down, pity the arrogant one hadn't done it sooner and I don't mean Karen.

Forgot to mention that I really liked Kieron and Brianne's routine last night. The curse of the wardrobe department strikes again though! What was going on with their tans? Brianne looked like she'd been creosoted.

I wish they'd lay off with the make up a bit to, some of the girls (celebs and pro's both) are really pretty but the way the make-up department trowells on the slap they end up looking like trannies!

Yep, she could have auditioned for a new species in Dr Who (no offence intended, but she looked positively orange). Does she not have a say though, surely they must be able to object to some of the make-up, maybe she likes the over-tanned look? Otherwise all the other pro girls would end up looking the same.

I suspect, as with costumes, they'll have very little say.

(Either that, or they don't let them look in the mirror! )

Yyyyyyup! I do wish the pros got more say - obviously the costume designers and the rest are the professionals so they should be left to it in certain respects but I can't imagine Bri and Kieron (or indeed Gary and Maria!) Looked at themselves before the show and thought "wow, we look ACE!".

Actually I'd imagine Brianne chooses to look that way. She may be insecure as she's not done any TV work.

There is no way THAT look would be forced upon anyone. She's been like this since week 1 and would have said something if it wasn't her choice. She looks ridiculous!

As a past very amateur skater (ice dance) I am surprised that these relatively young people and with the intensive training they have from shuch experts, just don't seem to be able to understand or, now, use the concept of bent knees and deep edges.
Some of the girls still look very uncertain on the ice, unless they are being held by their professional partners. All in all I am finding the whole show a bit tedious to be honest and Mickey should have been voted off.
Some of the music chosen was far too fast and made for very rushed routines and someone else other than T & D should take over, much as I admire their past glories.

I don't know how the make-up looks if you're actually there in the audience - does it look too much then ?? Because the camera zooms in for close-ups it does seem rather over done.

Same with the costumes -- they have to be a little OTT sometimes so that they have impact on the ice. They also have to fit with the music and Daniella's cowboy look with the boots etc went with the "line dancing" theme.

I don't mind the ott thing with the cossies, love the sequins and sparkles and what have you! It's just that some weeks, some of the costumes veer on the daft side of attention grabbing and some elements worked in to suit the music (e.g. the cowboy boots) don't quite work and it ends up diverting your attention to them rather than being a seemless part of the 'look', if that makes sense.?

Danny & Frankie were the best for me last night. As for the others I thought everyone underperformed but due to the stress of the competition and injuries a bad week had to happen.
Emily should have gone week 1 so I wasn't unhappy with her leaving but Mikey must go next, injury aside his little 'stumbles' have spoilt most of his skating all series and he's not improving much compared to others.
Overall a pretty dreary show and I agree they must to something about the music choice as some the tracks were dire.
Note to make up artists don't overdo the fake tan when couples dressed in orange..Oompah Loompah's don't do it for me.

Not a reflection on the skaters themselves neccasarily, the choreography for most of them was bobbins and some of the cossies were trainwrecks - it takes REAL effort to make a lad as handsome as Gary look anything but... Yellow? Nude? Sequins? Really?!! Also Daniella's routine was too technical and picky and again, her costume was vile. Her skates looked like wellies!!

Interesting to note that Daniella and Gary are the only real competition to Hayley, and they're the ones who got ridiculous costumes and rubbish routines and songs, where Hayley got a popular song and a nice costume. NOT Hayley bashing here, as I do like her and Dan and I think they're fantastic on the ice - but that's my point. She doesn't need things like this to do well and ultimately 'they' are doing her no favours as the public will go against her if they get a whiff of 'favouritism' (as we saw last year when Ruthie favoured Zoe Salmon)

Lastly, if Mikey is injured and unable to do some of the elements or choreography set by T&D in future weeks, will be interesting to see if we get the same cries of 'rebellion' and 'not trying hard enough' like Sharron got! ”

Totally agree! Those blue boots!

Didn't Philip say something like that? Wish Brianne would tone the hair down too - it's almost white! She seems such a nice person and obviously has a great relationship with Kieron but they look daft.

Yeah he called their shade of tan 'dancing on ice mahogany' or something. Brianne is lovely looking without the slap as you can see on the training VTs, I know they have to go for the 'wow' make up for the performances I just wish they wouldn't cake it on so thick!

I think Brianne always looks pretty in the training VTs but the way she looks on the night is always OTT. Last night was the worst so far though, she looked like a skinnier Pat Butcher. I don't like it when they put fake tan on Kieron either (or slick his hair back), he always looks much better in the VTs.

Alexandra was another one they totally spoiled by caking her in make up. I'm surprised she could open her eyelids.

Definitely Kieron and Brianne for me - when he did the lifts with her, I was cheering out loud!!

Hayley and Dan again for me, very polished again.

I actually thought Emily was really good. She really proved that she deserved her place in the final seven, even if she went on the performance. Definitely deserved 18.5 and shows how far she has come.

Mikey was easily the weakest.

Agreed, she looked so pretty and fresh-faced in her training VTs with Dr Hil, the tranny makeup puts years on her.

Hard for me to pick a favourite performance of the night, there were different things I enjoyed in several.
I enjoyed Kieron again, even though he did look a little nervous.
Hayley gave a lovely performance again and skated solo a lot more this week, although I was a little disappointed in her jump.
I liked Gary's routine and I thought he almost pulled it off to make it excellent.

Overall though, the most surprising performance of the night was Danny, streets ahead of what he's managed previously, just in time, I'd almost given up on him!

Mikey, Danniella and Emily all failed to inspire me this week.
I'll give Mikey the benefit of the doubt for one more week because his fall was so close to performance time, but he needs to pick it up next week.
Still didn't enjoy Emily, I found her very stiff, both in terms of movement and performance.
Danniella was the disappointing surprise, I've liked her up to this week, but for some reason I can't quite put my finger in it didn't click.

Can she? She's been given poor routines the last two weeks, it seems to me, and they seem focused on "performance" (acting) possibilities more than on skating. What was with all the tricky steps that aren't skating at the start this week? It almost looks like they're trying to give her some difficulty that doesn't require much skating skill, and I'm not convinced she's still a better skater than Emily.

Well we agree at last Veri, I don't think there is much to choose between them.
