Sport? They weren't actually driving cars...

I didn't like it at all, but I'm glad he went through as I really like him.

It was a teeny bit gimmicky but overall I think it worked.

It was different and so it stood out which was the main thing for him.

I remember the song when it came out in the late 80s - brought back some memories!

I thought the routine has potential to be really good. If he'd skated it a bit better and performed a little more it would have worked more, but he may have been hindered by the speed of it all!

Part of their routine was like the ice skating/running I watched last night from Canada! Forget what it's called!

I agree. I thought it was an inventive routine but a bit beyond Gary. His performing skills aren't the most natural so trying to cope with something like that meant everything suffered a little imo. Also, I know it's unfair but I couldn't help wondering what Chris, Ray or even Kyran would have done with that routine.

I said something similar in another thread - I think Kyran & Chris in particular would have really suited that routine. Just goes to show how weak Gary is in comparison to them. I can't believe he is such a weak performer for an actor. Kyran is way better and he was a rugby player FFS.

Yes, I think that's what I meant by my "even Kyran". Not that Kyran was that much weaker than Chris or Ray but that he wouldn't have been expected to deliver a performance in the same way as one who was in "the profession" and yet his skills certainly impressed significantly more than Gary's are doing thus far. Where is your inner diva Gary? Channel it and give us a performance please... I refuse to believe you're not capable!

I personally think that as an actor - Gary plays himself.

This is no reflection on Gary, but I really didn't like that routine (doesn't mean that I think the marks weren't right).

I agree that Chris Fountain, Kyran or Ray would've made a better job of it, but throughout the routine I found myself wishing that Jayne and Chris had done it themselves as one of their exhibition routines. They would've been sensational.

The routine might have worked for someone else. But Gary just doesn't have the skating skill, acting skill, or personality to carry that sort of thing off. It was actually quite embarrassing to watch him...

I found the routine a little awkward and uncomfortable...and I was sure he was going to drop poor Maria at one point...but he managed to stay upright. I think he should just stick to the normal stuff next week, instead of that weird thing they tried to do...

I thought the routine was cack - sorry! This is no reflection on Gary as I like him and Maria very much, though I agree with what others have said and think that it may have been better suited to someone like Ray or Kyran.

The choreography in general last night was a bit all over the place imo - though for once I agreed with the scoring. Hmm.

TBH I think Gary is probably the best skater but cannot perform, that routine was mad and didn't suit him he looked all over the place and didn't seem in sync with the lovely Maria. Wrong routine for him, I could see Chris Fountain doing that and getting away with it

Yes, I agree. Ray would have made a great job too. Gary hasn't got the performing skills tho I did think the routine was an amusing idea.

I really enjoy watching Gary and Maria. I don't think the routine did him any favours last night - but I still think he is the best skater.

It would be good if he could progress with his performance skills, as Hayley improves her skating skills ... they may meet somewhere in the middle and make the competition more interesting.

I actually liked the routine, but he couldn't really pull it off. Liked the idea though.
I think Chris would have been good at it too.

I'd love to have seen this as one of Ray's routines

In that case, watch Torvill & Dean's Ice Adventures - the Winter Games section, which is a total take off of winter sports competitions; they used the same music in the bobsleigh section of that. This was with professional skaters, so you can see the full potential of that routine.
