Virgin Voicemail Technical Problems?
Since Friday if I ring 222 to collect the voicemail messages that I know are there (due to the voicemail indicator showing on my phone) I just get "Hello, we're having some technical problems at the moment, so you can't have your messages. Please call again later". It's been the same all weekend and is still the same now.
Have also noticed that if I ring my number from another phone it just rings and rings and eventually says the phone is unavailable, but doesn't give an option to leave a message. Is this affecting anyone else or just me? It's a PAYG phone if that makes a difference, and it makes and receives calls OK (if I choose to answer them). |

Isn't 222 just the number you dial once to set up your voicemail? After that you can then access it by just holding down the '1'/voicemail key on your phone. Does it make any difference if you try accessing your voicemail that way?

Thanks Dan
If I hold the 1 key (with the voicemail symbol) it does dial 222. Is it supposed to dial a different number to pick up messages? Anyway it used to work, it's only since Friday that it's stopped, and now gives this "technical problems" message. Anyway even if I'm calling the wrong number to collect messages doesn't explain why people can't leave messages any more. I guess I should call them up, just wondered if it was a temporary problem affecting everyone on Virgin that they're likely to fix themselves later so no point in wasting time/money on the phone to them. |

Ah I see. Yes, for some reason on Virgin (T-Mobile), the number you dial to retrieve your voicemail is unique to you. This number becomes assigned to the voicemail key of your handset once you dial 222, by means of a SIM update.
You can check to see what your voicemail number is (if it is set up) by dialing *#67#. But yeah, like you said, the fact that people can't leave you a message might indicate a problem with the service anyway. |
