I've seen it enough to be honest.

Anyhow didnt mean to get people annoyed.

Im going back to reading about what you people are eating for dinner.

Recipe please?

To the OP - I like the food forum, it's generally quite friendly and helpful, although we do get the occasional FM trying to stir things up unfortunately.

I haven't really noticed any food snobbery here, or maybe I've just wilfully ignored it(!) - or maybe my interpretation of responses is different to yours? For example, if someone says the Tesco lasagne is bloody lovely, there's going to be someone who says you can make it yourself in 15 minutes - I don't see that as snobbery as such, simply frustration on the part of the responder that someone's paid twice as much for a 'bung it' (in the oven) than they would have paid to make it themselves.

Am I making any sense here?

Anyhoo, just ignore any snobs as you see them, just enjoy talking about food. I think it's what most of us are here for.

My idea of food is, eat what you like, when you like and from where you like. If other people don't like it, tough.

Totally agree.

My favourite food is, in fact, A big mac and chips! But I cook from scratch as well, promise.

Plain and simple - a lovely Sunday roast is my favourite. Roast beef and all the trimmings... yum!

What food snobs? I've not seen that on here. Occasionally someone may start a thread asking where such and such packet sauce is available or something, and someone may say it's easier to make it from scratch, but I don't find that snobbish, just helpful.

There's about 3 of them round here though one of them doesn't post so much anymore.

Best to just roll your eyes and ignore them. If they want to spend their lives slaving in a kitchen let them, i'll spend my time enjoying the life outside of my house, experiencing foods i do not know how to cook or prepare myself and without the hassle of having to make it myself .

I tend to agree- I might not take their instructions (or try their suggestion), but at least I would have more of an idea how the product in the packet was made or how to improve it

There's not really any need for it though.

I try to cook from scratch as much as possible, and generally prefer the outcome, so although I'd agree with whoever said that as a reply, I don't think it's helpful or necessary - to me, it certainly comes across as condescending.

I'm sure the poster who enjoys the Tesco lasagne is aware that it's easy/cheap/quicker/nicer to make your own, but for whatever reason, they're eating the readymeal and they enjoy it. Maybe they do prefer it to a homemade one, or just doesn't want to cook from scratch.

A massive assumption, besides which it's just a suggestion, not sure how anyone could be offended by such a comment on a forum about food and drink?

I actually find comments like this worse. Just because someone cares about what they cook and what they consume doesn't mean they don't have a life outside the kitchen.

It is true that a lot of replies to posts on here about food are like "oh that would be ace with ......." or "done like this instead", but thats how the creativity gets to you. Thats when you've got the food bug.

True - however I am sometimes surprised that people seem to think 'mass produced' food somehow implies an automatic 'con'.

Lasagne was mentioned, earlier - anyone remember the Findus 'Red Box' Lasagne from the 80's?

The pasta for this was produced on an unique machine that used only durum wheat semolina water & egg, the bolognaise sauce was cooked on site using plum tomatoes, minced beef, garlic & herbs, the bechamel was cooked on site using fresh milk, etc.

- yes it can be more convenient to cook your own, but assuming the alternatives are somehow a rip off isn't always the case?

But then you could say is there any real need to start a thread about how much someone might be enjoying something they're eating Is it not the whole point of a forum?

That is so true!

It's a bit like the golf bug, the gardening bug or growing your own bug - it consumes your mind in the best possible way.

I love food!!! Love buying it, cooking it, talking about it and especially eating it!

Well, they're told all the time...

To me, it almost always comes across as smug and condescending - and I agree that from scratch is better.

Cream Cookie. I really don't know what your on about - I've already explained that I was trying to be funny - and you've also got me completely wrong. I love food and I love cooking - but I give myself a break from it SOMETIMES - and not everyone DOES cook everything from scratch ALL THE TIME, me included - and I don't agree they should get rounded on when they mention that fact. I was just trying to agree with the OP. Jees!

I'm fairly new on here and so far have always thought it a friendly food forum.

The veggie argument popped up on there as I knew it would. I'm veggie but I eat fish - people always want to tell me what the 'proper' term is for it but I I'm not really that bothered! I don't tell meat eaters what to call themselves!

&with regards to the snobs - maybe some people do have a perfect life with a nanny, a cleaner, etc - while they make piles of pancakes every morning (like an American mom) squeeze fresh juice for their kids and make fresh coffee while they sit in the conservatory reading the papers - but the rest of us don't, er - do we?

Most of us grab some tea and toast - and get to the schools or off to work.”

I didnt even know there was a proper term for someone who eats fish but not meat????

I am a bit of a carnivore personally, I love meat. But I really would rather someone else cooked. A bit like that show - can't cook, won't cook - except with me its Can cook, don't want to cook - at least a lot of the time.

I do some meals from scratch, some takeaways and some ready meals. I think it all depends what you have in the way of time. I happen to stay at home with the children, so I do have time to cook from scratch, but a lot of the time I would rather be doing something else

It is a friendly forum. Well, at least I am friendly. Of course I can't speak for anyone else.

I don't post in food and drink much, but I like reading about what other people are cooking, even if I don't do too much of it myself. I think I do just enough for me.

Everyone should pick for themselves. Its nice to cook from scratch, but the quality of ready meals and pre prepared goods these days means that I personally, don't think you lose much by using all your options.

There's no such thing as a "food snob". There are simply some people who care enough to look out for the less culinary educated.

*giggle*

Less culinary educated? In our times, I see no reason why people should be culinary educated if they don't want to be.

Having said that, I have found and tried some stuff people talk about on this forum, because I like to try different things every now and then and hone my cooking skills.

But its not for everyone.

Ok, WE GET IT. You cook every single meal from scratch, which therefore makes you a far better human being than the rest of us who sometimes like a McDonalds or KFC.

Honestly its making me wanting to stop coming in and reading the threads in the this forum, and I like reading about what people are having for tea

Food is food, and we all have different tastes. Stop being such snobs and stuck up arses to others who enjoy fast food once in a while, and who dont have the worlds most healthy diets all the time.

I wont mention any names, but there are certain posters who I see doing it alot.

Stop it please.

Rant over.”

Well I have posted in here ever since this forum was opened and have never come across any snobbery at all... In fact this is one of my fave forums - it's so friendly!!

AND I have not had a cooker since the 14th January.... Meaning I have been living on a combination of microwave food, handouts from my Mum and fast food I've not had a single negative comment!!!

I agree with all the above live and let live.

Never seen any food snobbery in fact only the reverse this board is a haven for people who like food and nice place to be on the forums without the irritating rollseyes smillie. I have only recieved good advice on this forum.....and hope I have given it too!

I won’t tell others what to eat and there is no point telling me what to eat because I won’t listen BUT I will not be made to feel bad for talking about cooking from scratch/only buying butcher meat/new recipes etc etc.
