Is this junk food...
... namely, a bacon/egg/sausage sarnie made with white bread and a smidge of whatever sauce? I often (once or twice weekly) get one of these from the local greasy spoon which is frequented by truckies, and it tastes yum.
But I wonder, would such a sarnie be considered oh-so unhealthy by today's standards? It's just that often I hear about how "hearty" it is to tuck into something like that for breakfast or lunch, but then the scaremongering crowd tends to pipe in by saying how horrendously artery-clogging it is. When it comes to eating stuff like that in moderation, who's really in the right? |

Everything is fine in moderation, and as long as you're getting some exercise.
Apart from white bread that is, that's just wrong full stop. |

Well as an occasional treat its hard to beat !
To make it more healthy could you grill ( rather than fry ) the sausage or bacon and poach the egg....and serve on a wholemeal bread ...still satisfying and less sat fat |

It's junk food - very fatty.
Moderation and a little of what you fancy though, no need to beat yourself up about it. |

Eat what you like, so long as more goes out than comes in and you maintain a healthy weight you should be fine.
Certainly once or twice a week should be no problem whatsoever |

I agree that fatty does not equate to junk food. At least you know what is in it.

It very much depends on the quality of the ingredients and the way it's cooked. From a greasy spoon I'd assume it's using cheap ingredents and fried, so not very healthy.

Yes, its fatty but once a week or so isnt terrible, its when you have it every morning that it starts to get too unhealthy. Yes it would be better not to eat it at all but lets face it....life just wouldnt be enjoyable if we all stuck to salad. I loveeee a nice scrambled egg & bacon muffin. I do admit that I always cook it myself though, cant stand the smell of greasy cafes, plus I always grill my bacon which makes a difference.

Not junk food by any stretch.
There's nothing wrong with bacon and the rind - it's good old protein and animal fat - that your body is evolved to thrive on. How can something so simple taste so good? Because it's good for you. |

Absolutely not junk food at all. Yes they can be high in fat but no more so than other foods and if you don't fry in loads of greasy oil it's perfectly fine. Use kitchen roll to dab off excess fat too, keeps the fat content even lower.
Every is fine in moderation though and even more so if you work out regularly. |

Also, as someone else pointed out, the quality of the meat used in the sausages and bacon is probably not great and very fatty so not healthy at all. Twice a week is a lot for such a high salt and saturated fat meal, but it could be counter balanced if the OP does regular exercise and has an otherwise balanced diet. |

Yeah, I agree that it's fatty and unhealthy (in excess), but I wouldn't call it junk food.

Stuffing oneself with stodgy carbs is just as unhealthy, if nto more, then a bit of fat.
There's plenty of people buying 99.99999% fat free foods and happily eating cakes, pasta, potatoes, etc in huge quantities under the delusion that they're eating healthily. Enjoy it!!

Something tells me that a greasy spoon, where the op buys the sandwich from, wouldn't bother with this.

Simple answer - yes.
Why buy from the cafe? Why not make it yourself at home with free range eggs and locally sourced, farm fresh bacon and sausage. Quicker, tastier, easier and healthier. |

(And a mere glance at your post history would suggest that you seem to have an agenda or crusade against such foods.) |

Plenty of reasons, which aren't relevant to the topic at hand.
It's your body though, if you wish to continue poisoning it, don't come crying when it all catches up with you. |

There are also plenty of good cafes who don't operate their business solely to poison you. Even my local greasy spoon uses free range eggs and decent butchers sausages, it's simply not true that all bought food is worse than home cooked food. As for the OP, no I've always thought junk food is cheap, processed stuff. A decent sandwich like this isn't junk. |

Actually, what they seem to do is scrape away something from the frying surface whilst the bacon and bangers are sizzling. I don't know if this constitutes fat reduction?
I used to work in a greasy spoon. Griddle-scraping is a bit minging at first, but becomes oddly satisfying. |
