Over-salted, additive-riddled heart attack fodder - I really don't understand why anyone would even want to look at these establishments, let alone eat there.

Which is the worst though?

McDonalds - The home of crappy food

Burger King - Flame Grilled (in a microwave)

Greggs - Tasteless saturated fat overload

KFC - Hydrogenated fat-filled chicken feet

Subway - Fake salads and soggy breads

Of all those mentioned, Greggs has taken it to a whole new level.

Hi Mantey

Welcome to the food thread - the home of discussion and advice for fellow food lovers. We tend to like being positive round here and sharing nice things.

Do you have some nice things to share with us. Perhaps a recipe, a nice restaurant you have been to, a fab ingredient you enjoy using ?

Although I think most of us are in agreement re: dodgy 'food establishments', we like to dwell on the positive.

It's a valid topic that is most applicable to this sub-forum than any other. Who says you have to just be positive here?

all of those places are ok as treat though- lets not demonise them and the people that eat there. Greggs is perfect hangover fodder- steak bakes are divine, steak bake and a cheese savourey- together - artery clogsville but worth it once in a while. Mac Ds ok for a quick snack.

Pizza Hut and KFC- other places like Pizza express or Nandos do the same food better.

Nowt, I was just trying to smooth the waters between different posters - some of whom have been getting a bit upset at the negativity.
Failed subtle attempt, obviously.
YEAH DOWN WITH FAST FOOD JOINTS - THE EVIL B*STARDS. I hope that's better.

Sometimes, when I've got a day to myself, I'll go to Greggs and get a box of 4 of those iced donuts, the ones with the smiley faces on, and chain eat them while watching 'Diagnosis Murder' and several cups of tea.

Part of the pleasure is knowing how bad it is!

I don't think Subway should be on a list of junk food outlets.
As with most places, it depends what you order - a white subway stuffed with meatballs and cheese is a lot different to a wholemeal one filled with tuna and salad.

I don't really eat 'junk food' much any more now that I'm a healthy eating freak, just allow myself an occasional fish & chips, chinese or thai meal.

Out of the ones you've listed, I never liked Subway, I tried it once or twice but the bread was all airy and sweet and the fillings pretty bland. I've never been to a Greggs I don't think. However, I've eaten plenty of McDo & BK in my time - always preferred the burgers in BK and the fries in McDo! Ooh, and you get onion rings in BK too. Yum!

Burger vans are usually worse than all of them.

McDonalds sells the holy grail of hangover food in the form of it's sausage egg muffin though so it can't be all bad.

They used to have really nice pancakes on their breakfast menu but sadly I don't stay out until 07:00 in the morning anymore

Once I got into London I used to get Mcdonalds hash browns on my way into work - they were delish. Don't even know if they still do them now.

They're OK when the parameters all come together, but it all depends on the timing.

You either get a nice, hot, fresh one; or a tepid, barely even warm one that's been sat under a heat lamp for half an hour.

Still hotter than any of Subway's "hot" breakfast subs that have been microwaved for as long as the "sandwich artist" can be arsed rather than how long they're supposed to be microwaved for.

Every now and again - maybe twice a year or so - I get an all consuming urge for KFC.
So I dig in. It's a guilty pleasure.

To be fair this is an issue in many sandwich shops when busy, and I'm guessing most people have left the store by the time they find their food is not completely cooked

I've actually found it to be the complete opposite.

You end up with a cold "hot" sub when it's quiet; because the sandwich artist puts your sub in the microwave; presses the preset time; then you and the sandwich artist run out of small-talk so they terminate it prematurely to cut short the awkward silence and you end up with a cold sub.

Conversely, when a Subway is busy; they put your sub in the microwave / toaster and start serving someone else; and you generally get it microwaved / toasted for the full time.

The golden rule is never go for a hot sub at a Subway when it's quiet.

Seriously, if I could be bothered to run a Subway it would make DOUBLE the profit of any other Subway.

For example, I'd train my staff in the art of "looking busy", even if there's nothing to do; in order to ensure that their customer's sub is microwaved for the full prescribed time and that they go away enjoying a really hot sub and will come back for another one.

Respect, no reply to this as never had a hot Sub before but I thought I'd reply to admit you may have a point

That was quite complicated - but I loved your description of the 'awkward small talk!'

Fish & Chips stands up very well against other fast food in nutritional comparison tests see.
