I can honestly say all the salad items I've ever had in a Subway have been 100% genuine and the bread was never soggy. Definitely the best of all establishments listed.

Worst? Tough one. Probably Greggs for general all-round stodginess.

I'm too traumatised to visit Greggs again after reading their nutritional leaflet!
It must take some skill to pack so many calories in to such a small pastry snack

sorry, I have to disagree, that article (rightly in my opinion) extols the virtues of fatty fish - but not many chippies sell salmon, mackerel, herring or sardines....

What many chippies in my local area sell is low fat fish (usually haddock), coated in batter & fried in beef dripping - which isn't exactly 'healthy'.

- however it does taste bloody lovely

Which is the worst though?

McDonalds - The home of crappy food

Burger King - Flame Grilled (in a microwave)

Greggs - Tasteless saturated fat overload

KFC - Hydrogenated fat-filled chicken feet

Subway - Fake salads and soggy breads”

I came to love you late.

How is offering you the consumer a choice of salad stuffs fake?

And it's not actually as bad for you as you might think.

I don't eat at any of the restaurants listed because of the lack of vegan options, but I'd say my local chinese has to be the worst fast food I eat. I don't even want to think about how much oil and salt I consume when I go there. Tastes bloody laavely though

I wonder if those restaurants voted 'worst' would also score highly in a poll of those considered 'tastiest'

tbh I always discard the batter & only eat the fish, so that article could make sense, for me - however anyone that eats the batter, as well, may need to make their own mind up???

I have to say Fish and Chip shops are appalling in this country.

In Australia most fish and chip shops also are a fish monger so you can choose the type of fish you want you also have the option to have it grilled instead of battered which is much nicer.

Don't know what it is but am guessing they change the oil more frequently too as the chips are far nice.

Oh and its not something im romantisizing in my memory everytime I go back home i eat tons of fish and chips or calimari - over here rarely go and everytime its a disappointment. To be fair have never liked battered fish though.

Speaking for all of us are you?

Self appointed forum leaders aside, IMHO I see nothing wrong in discussing the darker side of food as well as the good side.

I'll never eat another McDonalds again unless I was on the point of starving to death. KFC on the other hand I would eat. Yummy!!! Given the choice though I'd much rather go for home cooking.

Each to their own I say. The forum has room for all opinions so Mantey take no notice. If it turns you off say so, if it turns you on say so

McDonalds that used to be in Grays. World's slowest 'fast' food restaurant! No wonder they closed!!!!

It's hardly real, look at it.

It probably comes pre-chopped from China.

Not to mention the MSG. Chinese takeaways in the UK are appalling and their negative contribution to the UK's deteriorating health is noteable. How about making your own Chinese dishes at home with a tenth of the salt, fat and no MSG? At least you'll know the kitchen is hygienic too.

We always eat in Harry Ramsdens when we go to Bournemouth on a day trip, and personally I think its fantastic.

I can't speak for other restaurants in that chain, but that one is great. Fresh fish, caught daily, lots of options on how it is cooked. Good chips. Highly recommended!

As for the main discussion point on this thread.

I adore eating at Mcdonalds, Subway, KFC and I love fish and chips from my local shop.

If other people don't like it, or think its unhealthy, then my suggestion is.....Don't go there!

We eat a balanced diet in our house with a mix of really good for us and really bad for us stuff. When we go to Mcdonalds, my 2 year old has a happy meal WITH FRIES (not carrot sticks, he eats plenty of carrot sticks at home). Its a treat. Its not as if we eat there every day. And they do offer healthier options if you want them.

I agree you may not get the healthiest food in these fast food chains - but no-one is forcing you to eat there. Its not like its the law that you must have a greasy burger every once in a while.

A little bit of what you fancy does you good.

Never had a kebab from a kebab shop....never will. Not a fan of any of those Southern Fried chicken establishments.

Never been in Subway as many of their products are very salt-heavy and I have a family history of strokes.

I'm that nutter in Mac D's who blots his chips with napkins to take the grease and salt off.
