Hey guys,

Got some diced beef in the freezer that needs to be used, but want to make something a bit different to the usual curry, pie, stew etc

Any ideas welcome. thanks in advance.

Ever tried this.

1. Fry chopped onion/garlic/green pepper for 10 mins.
2. Add meat and brown.
3. Mixed herbs/oxo cube/worcester sauce added
4. KEY INGREDIENT add tsp of caraway seeds
5. Tin of chopped toms plus bit of water and tom puree
6. Small tub of single cream - seasoning
7. Into oven for 2 hrs lowish heat.

Serve with brown rice (takes a good 30 mins to cook remember)and a green veg.

A delicious winter warmer (especially with a decent glass of Cab Sauv)

Hmmm made something similar once before but its not something I do often, it seems fairly quick too so a good choice for after work dinner. Its in the running lol

Hayley I put the wrong recipe up. Please re-read. I didn't read your post carefully - thought you said you said sirloin steak.

SO I've put one of my tried and tested up instead

Hey orange, no probs, just read your tried and tested recipe and it sounds good. Unfortunately it sounds like a weekend meal as it takes 2 hours to cook. I need a quick 45 min recipe to make when I get home from work.

Can't think of anything to recommend that takes 45 minutes only. I was going to suggest all the things you wanted a change from doing, but they need longer cooking times.

The two are stews/curries but with a twist.
Beef Rendang or Beef Pepperpot Stew

Both recipies are on the BBC Food site.

You could possibly get away with 45 mins, especially if you defrost the beef. Unfortunately the cut of meat does benefit greatly from long, slow cooking.
