In an interview today, Boyzone let slip "we've put the product out there...."

That's so depressing. What happened to real musicians?

Has something happened and boyzone the only choice left on the planet?

Nonsense.

It was 1979.

If you think that Boyzone were ever musicians then I'm not surprised you're disappointed.

I think they probably meant to say 'some shit' instead of 'the product'.

Nonsense.

It was 1979.
I would say nearer 1981.

Music has been dead since 1984.

Is this going to be a thread bemoaning the supposed lack of 'real' musicians then (whatever the hell they are)?

They're out there, if you know where to look.

Also: music forum.

I could never forgive them for the destruction of Tracy Chapman's 'Baby can I hold you'
My daughter - a teenager at the time, and a BIG boyzone fan - first time she heard their version.... "OMG, they've killed it"

Real music with proper musicians and talented singers/songwriters does still exist. You just have to look harder to find it.

The big 4 music companies will push what they think will sell, hence the reason so many artists sound the same as so many others. The big labels are no longer innovative, if your first album does not sell well expect to be dropped by the label pretty sharpish these days. If that attitude existed in the 60s/70s we would never have had the likes of Queen, Pink Floyd, David Bowie etc.etc.

Plenty of places to find good music though, music blogs, small independent labels online (check out thornybleeder records, who give a lot away for free). I tend to void anything from the big labels these days, think I have bought only a couple of CDs from the big 4 in the last 10 years.

You won't find "real musicians" and "real music" in the mainstream chart, sadly. I've lost count on the number of musicians I like that get overlooked in favour of acts like Lady Gaga and Beyoncé.
