I'm just curious as to which people generally prefer?

Do you prefer singles, in that it's a song you can listen to continually and instantly etc, or do you prefer albums - in which you can identify with the artist more, and appreciate?

I much prefer albums - more variety and occasionally there are better tracks on there than the lead single etc.

What about you?

If it's an artist I really like, then I'll buy their CD album.

I mainly download singles from LW, though!

It's mainly down to the artist. Unless its an artist i really like i'll download the singles and then make a decision to buy the album.

well if your a music fan then albums, if your a casual music fan then singles.

I tend to judge an artist more on their albums than singles.

Albums. Only buy singles of artists that I really really support. Alexandra Burke and Beyonce!

i used to get albums in the 70's but found the singles were the best tracks on them, so that put me off albums!

Definitely albums. After many listens you can still discover new things and it can make you feel a different way listening to it another time.

You can tell a really good album when your fave track on it changes every week or so.
I love it when there's a track that is possibly your least favourite on an album, but you give it a few more listens to understand it better and you start appreciating it more and end up liking it sometimes more than the others.

Albums, definitely.

I like albums that make sense when listened to all the way through, with the tracks in the running order the artist chose.

Very occasionally I will download a single but more often than not if I like a couple of songs I've heard on the radio from a certain artist, I will buy their album instead.

I haven't bought a physical single since about 1986.

Albums I've always thought was better value for money. The latest single you may like from an artist will be there, along with many other songs that you can gain love for aswell.

Plus - it's an extra bundle of songs straight to your ipod

Definitely albums. Most have a few gems on them that are better than singles. Also, some artists put a lot of thought into track listing, especially if the album's a concept album, so it's good to hear the single tracks in context with the album tracks.

Albums. It takes me into that artists world. Most of the time, i find myself loving unreleased songs then the singles they eventually released.

Albums - only brought 1 single in my life which was Joe McElderry's 'The Climb', although I think my Mum payed for that so maybe I've never personaly brought any. Artist's have to do a lot more than have 1 good song to get my custom, single are what Youtube is for.

See i'm the opposite. I used to never buy albums and believed everyone when they said that the singles were the only decent songs on the albums, but after buying alot of albums this year (Jay Sean, Ke$Ha, both Saturdays, Owl City, Beyonce, Black Eyed Peas, OneRepublic, N-Dubz and Chipmunk) i'd say there's alot of gems hidden on these albums that singles buyers will miss out on. It's a shame because there are several fantastic tracks that will forever remain hidden on an album because of either a) the label/artist thinking there are better choices or b) because the album has sold enough and further singles choices aren't needed.

I used to be a person who just bought singles.. but as i've gotten older and more into my music.. i've started buying more albums.

And i kinda prefer albums because you get to see whether the singer has substance in their work or whether they are just as good as their next single.

Albums (CD ones... I don't do expensive downoads... I'd rather pay £1 more for a proper copy). Singles... very rarely. I only buy singles from Skunk Anansie and for some reason Bat For Lashes.

I always buy albums. Unless there is one single that I really like but I dont really like the artist that much, or it is a stand-alone single (it isnt on an album) or if someones lead single is so good that I cant wait until the album, but then when the album comes out I end up with two copies of it

If I like the artist enough I'll buy the album, but sometimes I've disappointed because the singles are the best songs off the album (La Roux & Frankmusik spring to mind) but then there are others that are full of gems (Girls Aloud's WWTNS onward) so I usually preview some tracks off Youtube first, may just download the ones I like (the uptempos usually and strong slow ones, Overcome I'm looking at you)

Depends.

I've seen people buy an album for 1 song, to find out that it is rubbish. Sometimes I've discovered a single from a particular artist that I would have never expected and I've loved it, but after getting an album to hope for more of the same, I'm left disappointed.

On the other hand, If I like a couple songs from an artist, get the album, then find I like 10 or 11 a lot out of 17, then it was a good investment. So simply, my preference depends on the quality I get back, but I have the opportunity to scout a lot more due to technology these days.

100% albums, especially by my favourite artists. If it's a newer artist and I'v eonly heard the one song from them, then i'll youtube the other songs on the album first. Albums are so good, many of my favourites offer a diverse range of music.

Albums obviously. To any serious music fan there is no comparison. I actually have no idea what my favourite bands release as singles off their albums, as I take no in interest in singles whatsoever. The work of art that has been created is the album in its entirety. Singles are just PR moves.

I much prefer singles because I grew up buying 12 inch singles & they were great.

It meant you could have your own version of a single that wasn't played on the radio or didn't appear on TOTP or The Roxy.

I used to record them all onto cassette too.
