Which celeb chefs do you like or admire the most? Who do you like to watch? Who's books do you buy? and more importantly who's recipe's do you actually use!?

My faves are Nigella (No 1), Rachel Allen, Jamie, Mary Berry and Margeurite Patten.

Not that keen on Delia tbh - although I have her chocolate and veggie books and someone bought me her book of cakes.

Mary Berry's books are well used! and I can't wait to get the Hairy Biker Baker Boy's new book Mum Know's Best - loved that show, with all the old family recipes and handwritten books.

Bookwise I buy all of 'em! The ones I use most though are Darina Allen, Delia, Nigel Slater, Simon Hopkinson and Tyler Florence.
I'm currently loving Raymond Blanc on the box. He's brilliant.

Never heard of Tyler Florence?

Although she's not on TV Ursula Ferrigno is hard to beat for Italian recipes. I also like Silvana Franco. Whatever happened to that show she was on where three chefs competed against each other and the result was tasted and judged?

Tyler Florence is American, you can see him on Sky Channel 262 (Food Network).
I think that show Silvana was on is called "The Best"?
My favourite for Italian recipes is Marcella Hazan.

I adore both Gordon Ramsay and Jamie Oliver.

Can't say I watch any others.

Yes, that was it THE BEST - it wasn't a bad show that - they made everything quite quickly if I remember.

Not heard of Marcella Hazan either - and I thought I knew a lof the Italian ones! DOH!

Forgot to mention Bill Granger, love him, he makes it all look so effortless. I want ALL his books!

She was very influential in educating Britain & America in Italian food.

I watched Gary Rhodes on a programme called 'Hot Chefs' years ago (I was about 14) and he was the reason I decided to go to catering college. I love the way he is so passionate about everything he makes.

I also like Rick Stein. Can't be bothered with Gordon Ramsay or Jamie O though.

HFW, Marcus Wareing, Hairy Bikers and James Martin.

Don't mind most of the others though... Apart from Delia, can't stand her.

I like Alton Brown, The Hairy Bikers, Giada DeLaurentis, Nigella Lawson, James Martin and Heston Blumenthal.

I do watch Gordon Ramsay, Bobby Flay, Tyler Florence and Jamie Oliver but find them to be a bit cocky and up themselves at times.

I like the hairy bikers, James Martin and Gary Rhodes. Actually the only TV recipes I use are Gary Rhodes ones. Delia is far too "home economics" for me but my son likes her recipes.

I have a theory about Nigella. If you are ever watching a film and an actor is playing the piano then you get a shot of the actor at the piano and a close up of some hands, presumably belonging to a real pianist playing the keys. When I watch Nigella I always get the feeling that she is just pretending, sashaying breathlessy round the kitchen in a tight sweater, standing next to a mixing bowl or chopping board while a real cook's hands are used for the close-ups !

We were watching Rachel Allen the other night, she was grating garlic on one of those foil grater things.

I said to the wife " I want one of those." She said "what, the grater?"

"No," I said "a good looking Irish woman in the kitchen!"

I got thumped.

Rachel Allen for me.

I find her easy to warm to, her dishes look tasty and she's very clean as she cooks!

She also tastes the food constantly, a very good habit to get into.

And deservedly so

I enjoy Rachel Allen and Nigella and have most of their books. I can't really say I enjoy watching Darina Allen, but the Ballymalloe Cookery Course book is fantastic. I like Ina Garten too.

I enjoy watching Nigel Slater, Rick Stein and the Hairy Bikers, but haven't indulged in any of their books, yet.

I used to enjoy watching Gordon Ramsay but can't bear him now - it's the constant slapping of the hands gets to me (nor do I like the fact he thinks he's better than most other "celebrity" chefs - I think he's turned into the biggest name-dropper out there). Although Tana Ramsay's Real Family Food book is enjoyable, I can't help feel there is a bit of bandwagon jumping going on...

I like watching Jamie, but I don't feel really inspired to cook anything from his books. As for Delia, I just find her a bit dated.

I like Tana Ramsay - but not Gordon - what's that all about? I have her books, apart from the red Home Made one I think.

Anthony Bourdain, even if he doesn't ever cook anything.

I like Ching He-Huang, Hairy Bikers, Jamie Oliver and Rick Stein, oh & Heston, though I think he goes a little too far sometimes

Gordon Ramsey & Anthony Worral-Thomson just annoy me though.

I love watching most of them although re-runs of the fat ladies crack me up. I love Nigel Slaters recipes and his column but don't warm to him on telly.

Delia is of course a living saint. Even if you find her a bit wooden on tv, her complete cookery course is a true bible. Nothing I have cooked from it has ever gone wrong. Same can't be said for flashier cooks. Stand up Nigella and Heston

So is Mary Berry good then? I had a flick through one of her baking books whilst I was in Lakeland at the weekend and thought it looked good... Do you use her sweet or savoury recipes (or both)?
