I am looking for a compact and cheap VCD player...dont need a DVD as I only use it to watch drama serials from abroad that arent available in the UK, and the broadcasters only manufacture onto VCD instead of DVD.

Ideally looking for something portable that just needs AV connection as opposed to scart.

Ive seen some on eBay, but didnt fancy waiting to get items sent from HongKong-rather buy in UK and have some after-sales service if required.

My local Sainsburys has a nice Mini DVD player (Philips), but its about £80 and Argos has a Goodmans for £100 that is the size of a car radio-but Goodmans arent the most reliable brand!!!

quite a lot of DVD players also play VCDs, you can pick up cheap DVD/VCD players for as little as £40 or as much as you want to spend.

if cheap and nasty is what you want then go onto e-bay and do a quick search. most of them are far east imports and will play most discs. alternatively as richard_t said go for a cheap dvd player which will more than likely play vcds as well.

Ive seen cheap and cheerful DVD players-but they are full size, and have to be plugged in permenantly. I d rather have something that is half the size and just relies on AV connections.

you can get cheap and cheerful slimline DVD players that play VCDS, as for the AV cable bit, you will need a mains lead and the AV cables that are standard on all equipment, .

Funny, I also have one of those. I agreee that the construction is crap. Mine has now stopped working altogether.

The best bet is to buy one of those Cyberhome 400 machines from WH Smith for £50. They are very small (9x9x2 inches) and will play anything.

I have a Samsung E234, cost about £75-ish

It plays DVDs & recordable DVDs, VCD, SVCD, CD, CD-R, CD-RW, MP3
It will even pick out and play MPEGs , and show JPGs from an ISO computer disk, as well as Kodak picture cds.
A couple of strategic key-presses on the remote, and it is also multi-regional.

In fact, in 8 months, I'm yet to find anything it won't play.

Not the cheapest, but a very versatile machine.

The 50 quid Cyberhome will do all this too, and is damn small to boot!
