Songs For Swinging Lovers by Frank Sinatra, Rock 'n' Roll Stage Show by Bill Haley, Showcase Lonnie Donnegan, Come Dance With Me by Frank Sinatra and The Soundtrack to the film Carousel are all LP's (as we used to call them) that charted in the UK Singles charts due ti very high sales in the 1950's.

The official chart changed the rules in 1969 banning both EP's and LP's from the official chart - this resulted in Simon & Garfunkels EP Mrs Robinson to drop out of the chart from the number 9 position despite sales indicating it would have made top 5.

EP's were allowed again from the 1970's when record companies flouted the rules by releasing Maxi Singles on 7" vinyl (Mungo Jerry's 1970 number one "In The Summertime" had 4 tracks and was released at Thirty Three and a Third speed). Although EP's are still allowed, the running time for a CD single of 25 minutes has effectively seen their demise as a format. Although a few releases are still called EP, they are effectively the same length as a CD Single.

the Soundtrack to the film South Pacific holds the record for the longest stay at number one in the album charts. It reached the top on the 8th November 1958 and stayed there until 5th March 1960. It dropped to number 2 but returned to Number 1 a week later and with 2 more drops to number 2 finally left the number 1 position 14th Jan 1961.

It did a few further stints at number one and finally left the chart in 1963. However it did return for further stints before making its last appearance in December 1972.

A total of 315 weeks on the charts.

Christina Aguilera wrote Miss Independant, intending to record it for her second album Stripped, but her record company handed it over to Kelly Clarkson when she won American Idol. Christina Aguilera was not happy, apparently.

Hayley Williams (Paramore) wrote in her journal (which anyone who managed to get the deluxe box set of brand new eyes will know) that "All I Wanted" was written about her relationship with guitarist Josh Farro.

Mike Nesmith's (of The Monkees) mum invented Tipp-Ex.

Kenny Pickett of 60s psychedelic mod combo The Creation wrote 'Grandad', a number 1 for Clive Dunn (Corporal Jones from Dad's Army).

Trevor Peacock (Jim Trott in the Vicar of Dibley) wrote Mrs Brown You've Got A lovely Daughter, a US number 1 in 1965 for Herman's Hermits. The original was recorded by the actor Tom Courtney in 1963.

Both Peter Noone of Herman's Hermits and Davey Jones of The Monkees appeared in Coronation Street as youthful actors.

No it was written by Herbie Flowers who was the bass player in Blue Mink and Classical/Rock cross over group Sky (and one of my "heroes").

Herbie also played the distinctive bass opening on Lou Reed's Walk On The Wild Side, played on David Bowie's Space Oddity and on Jeff Wayne's War Of The Worlds - he is also been in the band doing the live WOTW over the past few years.

Kenny Pickett's contribution was to inspire the hook by ringing Herbie's doorbell when he visited one day.

And in the 1960's, Bill Owen (Compo in Last of The Summer Wine) was a successful songwriter and had songs recorded by the likes of Engelbert Humperdink, Pat Boone and Sacha Distel. He also wrote the lyric for Cliff Richard's 1968 top 40 hit Marianne and one of his songs topped the Brazillian charts providing him with a very steady income for many years.

Another songwriting actor was Mike Pratt who played Randall in Randall & Hopkirk (Deceased). He wrote 'Little White Bull' which was a hit for Tommy Steele.

Alicia Keys wrote Million Dollar bill for Whitney. She also wrote Impossible, a track on Christina's Stripped album.

Livvi Franc has written songs for Cheryl Cole and Jordin Sparks. Rain On Me by Cheryl is co written by her and she's also co wrote Jordin Spark's Walking on snow song on her Battlefield album.

Disturbia is written by Chris Brown. He also does the backing vocals.

Session singer Tony Burrows is the only man to appear on a single episode of Top of the Pops three times with three separate bands. That was in early 1970 when his session-career was at its peak and records by The Brotherhood of Man ('United We Stand'), White Plains ('My Baby Loves Loving'), Edison Lighthouse ('Love Grows Where My Rosemary Goes') and The Pipkins ('Gimme Dat Ding') were all in the charts together.

I wonder if he changed outfits?

Sure. Tell us

A song on Girls aloud's second album which was written and produced by Xenomania called "Graffiti My Soul" was originally written for Britney spears's fourth album. But her people felt it needed more of a chorus. The song was also planned as the final single from Girls aloud's second album as well.

Xenomania also wrote 5 songs for Leona's echo album. The songs never made the album. They later told a magazine that "they were fine until they made the mixing room and they were pulled to pieces, so i took my name and writing credits off the record.

They have reportedly turned away Atomic Kitten and Gareth gates who wanted them to do songs for them.

Xenomania first began doing songs for Danni Minogue which of course never gave them any success. They never saw any success until they co wrote Cher's Believe.

I saw the video a few days and I thought I saw her, but then I thought it couldn't be her.
