Songs For Swinging Lovers by Frank Sinatra, Rock 'n' Roll Stage Show by Bill Haley, Showcase Lonnie Donnegan, Come Dance With Me by Frank Sinatra and The Soundtrack to the film Carousel are all LP's (as we used to call them) that charted in the UK Singles charts due ti very high sales in the 1950's.
The official chart changed the rules in 1969 banning both EP's and LP's from the official chart - this resulted in Simon & Garfunkels EP Mrs Robinson to drop out of the chart from the number 9 position despite sales indicating it would have made top 5.
EP's were allowed again from the 1970's when record companies flouted the rules by releasing Maxi Singles on 7" vinyl (Mungo Jerry's 1970 number one "In The Summertime" had 4 tracks and was released at Thirty Three and a Third speed). Although EP's are still allowed, the running time for a CD single of 25 minutes has effectively seen their demise as a format. Although a few releases are still called EP, they are effectively the same length as a CD Single.

That's why I asked.
