Ipod Touch sync issues

I recently got a new laptop and installed itunes onto it. My Ipod Touch was previously synced wth my old computer and I did get it set up fine with the laptop. I've just connected it a second time to add a couple of things to it and it had a 'problem' and asked to do a restore so I did (everything purchased from Itunes was backed up). Now it says its copying songs in the ipod, and in the summary it says songs have been added (the blue bar), but when I go into the music part of the ipod there is nothing there and the summary on itunes is an orange bar which means there are 'other' files there.
Can't figure out what has gone wrong, can anyone help?

I appear to have somehow sorted this, tho I have lost my apps, which isn't a problem atm.

And the problem has returned. Says that Itunes can't read the contents of the ipod and says to do a factory restore. Try to re-add songs and it takes ages to get them back on again. I fear this may be an issue every time I connect, even tho I have auto sync off :s
