I know a couple of strange people like myself, but i dont like egg. I'll eat it in a cake or bread, but cant have it as something cooked on its own.

I'm not alone, Nigel Slater doesn't like egg either!

But i want to get into it, as i feel i'm missing out. So what would people think is the least eggy way to eat it?

An omelette maybe?

I'm not really big on eggs either but I love breakfast tacos. I think the bacon (or sausage) and the salsa and cilantro and the other stuff help the egg taste a lot better.

Use a strong enough cheese and your omelette won't taste too much of eggs

I think you are strange, not liking the taste of eggs is like not enjoying the sight of a beautiful sunrise

I'm also not a fan of boiled, poached or scrambled egg. Once in a while if the feeling takes me I will have a fried egg on a buttie with sausage and/or bacon.

I do like egg fried rice though. I fry/scramble it first for only about 20 secs in a hot wok then remove it. Add it back in later on when the fried rice and it's other ingredients (chicken, peppers, peas, sweetcorn, mushrooms etc.) are almost done.

I think it's a textural thing. With all the strong flavourings (soy, vingegar, chicken powder/stock etc) I can't really taste the egg.

I always thought that to make proper egg-fried rice you made an quick omelette and shredded it before adding it to the rice?

Where is Mantley when you need him?

I did an evening course in chinese cookery many years ago, and the teacher told us to beat the egg with a little soy sauce, then once you've fried the onions and mushroom ect, just before you add the cooked rice, push everything to the side, then tip the wok and add the egg..scramble it up quickly...then when almost cooked mix it up with rest of the stuff, then add the rice

I don't know if thats the traditional method, or just her method, but it comes out really nice

I am the same as you, I'll eat egg as long as it doesn't taste too eggy. Omelette is the only proper egg meal that I'll eat (I like things that contain eggs like pancakes, but I don't think they are eggy enough to count). With an omelette I have to have lots of seasoning, cheese and fillings so that it doesn't taste too much like egg.

There seems to be two main methods that I know of (or have seen on TV ). I use the Ching method which is to beat the egg and put it into a hot wok and cook for 20 secs or barely cooked. You can mix it gently to make an omelette and then shred it or you can mix more vigorously to scramble it in the pan (in large pieces).
It pretty much comes out the same in the end.
Then remove and set aside and add it at the end of cooking.

The other method is the Ken Hom method which is to beat the egg and add it add the end of cooking the fried rice and mix it through the rice until it sets and breaks up into pieces.

I absolutely LOVE eggs. But if you don't like them, don't eat them, surely? It's not as if it's socially unacceptable to not eat eggs.

How about French toast? Basically sliced bread soaked in a mixture of beaten eggs and milk and then fried. The great thing about it - apart from the calories! - is that it tastes equally good with ketchup or syrup.

I'm not mad on eggs. And it's so hard to get the smell off them off the plates you've eaten them off!

And I can't bear anything with raw egg in it. Mousse, mayonnaise, anything like that really. It makes me gag.

I know i dont have to eat them, but i just wonder what i'm missing really. I love food, and its such an integral ingredient to so many aspects of cooking. I want to like them out of curiosity as much as anything else. I'm not force feeding myself them. Thats why i want to try a non eggy version to get the hint of the taste.

degsyhufc and rosemary are both pretty on it when it comes to egg fried rice. i.e you're kinds shredding it as you cook it, not afterwards
