However, lets not take away any credit from Vodafone, they are the only network offering this and it is a step forward/in the right direction.

As it is IP based, perhaps some clever person will hack the sw in the unit and then write a suitable app for wifi phones.

Hi Espi,

So continuing the theme of what I said, any chance of an iPhone app that can do the same job as the sure signal, ie calls over IP?

Mine arrived today. Its a welcome addition to the iPhone, which doesnt receive such a good signal as my N95 or I suspect other mobiles.

Took about 3 minutes to start up and then lots of flashing lights and started to download an update of some description.

Anyway now have full signal pretty much all over the house.

Brilliant idea. Now wouldnt it be nice if we could have an iPhone app that could allow us to make an receive calls with our vodafone number via wifi

I moved into a purpose built house 6 years ago. Due to building regs all the insulation had to be foil backed. I go outside the house and get a usable signal on all networks. As soon as I move 6 feet from my insulated French windows I get no signal at all. More and more people are going to suffer from this. The mobile operators can't do anything about this apart from siting a tower outside my front door, and probably in front of the houses built a couple of hundred yards down the road. This is going to be a more and more common problem. I'm about to upgrade, and by taking advantage of using a business billing company who rebate 50% of the contract term's line rental I can get a favourable contract on all networks. If I want to ditch my landline and use my mobile as my sole handset I have a choice - UMA on Orange or a Femtocell on Vodafone. The UMA solution is easier - my brother uses it on four Blackberries for his family, but I'm an iPhone user, and want an iPhone 4, and so the only real solution is Sure Signal. I should be able to get it for nothing, and I should get some form of rebate on calls and data that I make using my land-line but I am getting 3,000 free calls to landlines a month in addition to 2,100 anynetwork minutes so a one off payment of 50 quid pales into insignificance. It's far cheaper than installing an illegal cellular repeater which would come in at least £400 for something on UMTS.

I am capable of using the router's command line to set QoS for VOIP. Which of the recommended ports needs to have its priority elvevated? Is it just 50?

Its been around since 2005 with BT Fusion.
A mobile phone with wifi simply connected to the BT Home hub so all calls routed over broadband

It simply meant outgoing calls were done at BT rates.
They withdrew it no doubt because of impact on revenue streams.
Pretty much all smartphones can use VOIP now anyway. Not as convenient for incoming calls though.
