Chicken Kiev
I'm attempting to make a chicken kiev for my dinner...
I know NORMALLY you do the egg, breadcrumbs malarkey, then shallow fry, then put it in the oven, but I havnt got enough oil for this. I've looked at recipes, and this way, it recommends cooking in the oven for 20 minutes after frying. I've found a recipe that doesnt mention frying, but it also says cook for 20 minutes? Does that seem right to anyone? I'm a bit paranoid when it comes to cooking chicken! |

as long as the chicken is not pink when you cut in to it, it should be fine

I remember seeing this healthyish baked kiev and the recipe says 45 mins cooking, but I guess it depends on the size of the breast and the amount you are cooking at the same time.

I think I'll just do it for 25/30 minutes... and then check if its cooked. Trial and error I suppose! To be honest, I'm making it tonight in the hope that it'll be ok, or I'll be able to cook it better second time around! So tonight is a bit of a test run!

I do stuffed chicken breasts but our butchers are massive, they take 40mins to cook on 6 in the oven. Kievs aren't very different.

it really would depend on the size of the breast.
You could easily cook a smaller breast in 25 minutes in the oven without shallow frying first. But a larger one could need 35-40 minutes. I always find it useful to have a meat thermometer around for times when I am unsure. Peace of mind for only a few quid is worth it imo: http://shop.ebay.co.uk/?_from=R40&_t...All-Categories The initial shallow frying probably doesn't have much to do with cooking the chicken though, it is more for browning the breadcrumbs. |
