If your Chinese takeaway does hot and sour soup, I'd go for that.

I hope you feel better soon!

Quite. Why would you use a takeaway to relieve a cold? If anything, it will make the cold worse and make you more succeptible to colds in the future.

Try a home made remedy.

I'd say Indian or Chinese dishes - or Asian cuisine in general - which are heavy in ginger and garlic.

Hot and sour soup is Chinese penicillin as far as I'm concerned and if I'm feeling poorly the last thing I want to do is make a mess in the kitchen.

That statement has absolutely no foundation in logic or truth. Colds are viral illnesses picked up via droplet infection or touching comtaminated surfaces and then transfering the virus to nose or mouth. Eating one takeaway will not make a cold worse or predispose to further infection.
Naturally, if you can provide links to any clinical evidence which upholds your theory I am happy to be corrected.

As others have said, spicy food does seem to be good for clearing the tubes.

I find that a curry helps when I have a cold, maybe it's the spices!

I reckon it is!

And we need to be nourished with more than honey when we're ill so that we can keep up our strength and our bodies can fight whatever is ailing us.

Agreed, also I'm not a big lover of honey, it's ok in a cooked meal but as the bases for a cold cure

Don't people eat (or make) chicken soup when they're ill?

I think it was certainly regarded as the traditional 'cure all' within Jewish communities for many many years.

Not sure if it will definitely make you better, but it is probably a good way of getting some protein and goodness into a poorly person in a form that is light and fairly easily digestible.

No commitment that's your trouble!

Yep, it's thought that the chicken fat has anti-inflammatory properties-- not to mention the steam being effective in opening up airways.

Bless!

Nothing quite matches that feeling of being cared for by your mum when you were poorly and much younger. The forehead feeling and temperature taking and making of 'special' food and drink to perk you up.

Sleep.

Although a hot curry does actually help, something to do with the spices acting on a part of the brain.
