Corrie's Winning Lines!!!
SCARYGUY
26-04-2004
Ok, I know that Corrie is certainly not last in the list of soaps to have its classic characters spouting some splendid stuff but tonight (Monday 26th April) I was really rejoicing in several winners. Eileen, for instance, talking about her useless ex : "He wasn't the fizziest drink in the fridge". And then later Sally about Rosie with "You're meant to look like a singer, not a slapper." Priceless stuff!!!

However, good ol' Fred always steals it for me and tonight was no exception with his wonderful "Michael, you're not going out because I'm coming in." piece and then to Betty in the shop talking about Tim with "We'll let Candice wheel him and then we can take a vote." Wonderful!

You never find that kind of humour in the likes of Eastenders. Come to think of it, you don't find any humour there at all....

Yes I totally agree Eileen has had some great one liners in hte past few episodes. In Friday's episode "So you're half rice, half chips then?" lol Then she had several good ones in Friday's episode todd: "I never said I was gay, I said I had feelings for another bloke" Eileen: "Oh well sorry for nitpicking!" lol Then on her way to the Platts "I've been invited round for dinner to plan my gay sons wedding" "No mam you'll ruin everything" "Ill have thrown you a lifeline" lol Go eileen!

Oooh, and Fred last night when he was heartbroken over Mike and Penny's betrayal, I had tears in my eyes, lovely performance. (But just how short did Mike look standing next to Audrey in the street )

Thanks Scaryguy. You are so right, nothing compares to Corrie when it comes to the standard of the ewriting.

The examples you selected from last night are all classics but the amazing thing is that you can come up with two or three like that in nerarly every episode.

Eileen: There's nothing to be ashamed of these days. Gay people are always on the television. That Graham Norton's on every night.

Todd: Mom, I am not Graham Norton.

That was brilliant.

Corrie's fab when it comes to it's scriptwriting. I've never known another soap who can get the mix of humour & sadness all in the one scene.

That was my favourite line from last night's programme.

The line that sticks in my mind was from a couple of months back where Blanche and Traceyluv were talking about Hayley and Roy and Blanche chirped up 'he's a freak and shes a man' (or something along those lines!) I just remember the way Blanche came out with it at the time was hilarious!!!!!

Actress Sue Cleaver (Eileen) must get so unbelievably excited with the arrival of each new script as she definitely seems to get the biggest share of side-splitting lines in an episode. She certainly makes the most of them, though with her superb dead-pan delivery which is indicative of her talent as an actress. Now, as a direct result of this storyline, she has doubtless become a HUGE gay icon and the ideal mum wished for by a great man young gay fellas, especially those on the verge of "coming out".

When all is said and done, however, I have to say that one of my absolute fave Corrie lines of recent memory was utttered by Karen in the Kabin one night as she spoke about her wedding following Hayley's departure from the shop:-

"Even my bridesmaid used to be a fella. It's got everything, my wedding."

God! I almost peed in my pants when she let that one out. Just so absolutely 100% Karen. Tremendous characterization!!!

So many brilliant lines from Corrie - but one I remember was from ages ago when Linda was in the Rovers with Karen. Karen was planning her first wedding to Steve and said to Linda,
"I want to ask you to be my witness." -
and Linda replied,
"Why? Are you planning on having an accident?"
