I only have to walk in the door of M&S for a pot of their jam or something - and I come out with about 4 bags and having spent over 30 quid!

I blame them for having too many nice things I want to try. Best just not to go in most of the time. It seems shopaholic tendencies can spill over into food shopping too.

If you could only shop in one food shop forever, which would you choose - and why?

Would it be a quality or specialist shop - or a bargain basement for all the basics?

Do tell..........

You had four bags and only spent over £30 wow. You must be an eagle eye shopper. I think I barely fill one bag in Asda and it comes over £20.

In answer to your question I would love a place where I could just find all the ingredients I ever need. Sainsburys tends to be pretty good for cook your own food ingredients. But for the simple every day shop it aint have expensive.

Asda and Tescos seem to cater more for the every day shoppers. (frozen foods for simple quick meals etc.) I mean you can find stuff for ingredients but there always seems to be something that they don't stock that I need so they lose a star for that

I recently got into shopping using Ocado. That is pretty decent place to shop (in bed with the laptop )

I meant to put that in my post. I wonder if online shopping is really overtaking regular shopping - or do people still like to see and 'feel' the goods they're buying? I know I do.

fresh food I would prefer to see. Same with meat (if you use tesco home delivery you get some p*ss-poor meat selection) but with my birdseye products on my tinned stuff I usually not too bothered. You can usually check everything that is in something too now online if you are bothered about that type of thing.

I would actually like to see the come back of the old time family butchers and veg shops etc. if I was really honest - and then maybe an online shop for the box and tin products.

If I had to choose one it would be Waitrose. Problem is the nearest one to me is over 80 miles away!

I used to work with a chap who told us that his daughter worked for a food processing company and she told her father that when they dealt with most shops they would make no changes to the equipment. They had a contract with Marks And Spencer that meant that all the same equipment would be stopped and cleaned from top to bottom so the food for M & S could be prepared to their standards. So If I could afford it there would only be one shop for me for most things, not cheap but quality and value.

M&S is the only supermarket near where I work so for 8 years I have been in there almost daily sometimes I can easily go in and leave with nothing!!! And I rarely choose to go into an M&S when I am doing the weekly food shop as I am sick of it

BUT over the years I must have spent a small fortune in the place!!

We normally shop in Waitrose and Morrisons (Morrsions has more choice actually - but is not how I like to shop - it's always so busy!!)

Rainbow Girl - I don't believe you that you can walk out of M&S without ANYTHING!? That's a challenge I don't think anyone could pass! I Love Their Food! After all, remember, it's not just food......... (btw I don't think they should have even tried replacing Dervla Kirwin as the voiceover artist on that - it just worked)

I've never shopped in Waitrose, Morrisons or Lidl. Only Sains & Tesco. Not sure if I have any near to me. Are they really worth the effort?

Waitrose DEFINITELY is! I could spend hours in there. Expensive though.

Local farm shop is the only option I'd consider.

To be honest I may have gone in for something specific that they didn't have but as a rule you are correct I rarely leave M&S totally empty handed!!

Waitrose is bliss - if there was more choice (and if I had infinate money!!) then I would shop there all the time!!

We have a local farm shop that I get meat from once a month. The rest of the time I like Morrisons.

We do have an M & S foodstore near us, and you are right Hali, can't go in there without spending a fortune, even if I only pop in for a sandwich!

I love M&S Food, but Morrisons comes close.

As I'm married with two teens, I've done a lot of supermarket family shopping, and we use Tesco and Asda. Asda has the most amazing prices compared to anywhere else - your money really does go further. So many things at just £1.00, and everything is cheaper than elsewhere. Only go to M & S once a week and spend about £12 on bits and pieces because it's too dear for a full shop. As for a farm shop, forget it! They charge exorbitant prices - £7.99 for bottled dressings and £2.99 for jam and marmalade to name but two.

Somehow I don't think our ardent farmshopper has a large family to feed!

I may try Asda too, as they stock lots of the fatfighters foods I want to try (WW )

I do the 'big' shop at Asda, purely because it's near where I work so I go in once I've finished. I get my meat from the butchers shop my son's Godmother's hubby owns (there's a mouthful!)

If I ever go into M & S I have to avoid the biscuit aisle as I adore their raspberry and cream Vienesse fingers and can easily eat a pack in one sitting. I can't resist their spinach and pine nut pasta salad either.

do most of my shopping in M&S as it is my nearest supermarket, made even easier now by the fact they stock non M&S products

so probably would say M&S

Do small, large & medium shops in Tesco - mainly as its nearest.

Like Waitrose - they do some very tasty cheesecakes

I never shop at M&S, there isn't one handily close.

I generally do my shopping on-line at Tesco, nip into Asda or Somerfield for top ups depending on where I'm working but if it was cheaper I would shop at Waitrose all the time

HeyJude - the garage up the road to me is now partly an M&S too - so there's no escape for me!!

Sazzle - is that the one with cherry toms on the top? - that's today's lunch! Although I'm not too keen on cold pasta so I take out the cherry toms and nuke it till its warm and the cheese goes nicely stringy - then I chuck the toms back on top as I'm not keen on hot cherry toms either! Delish lunch tho (or even dinner )

ASDA for my main shop - I work there for my sins. Morrisons has a few nice bits too. But for my booze, it has to be Sainsbury's - nowhere comes close. Especially the French Cider
