Thanks for the feedback on the programmes. I haven’t seen them yet, so it’s good to know. I’d really like to see the return of a couple shows. One was where a celebrity chef went into someone’s home to see if they could create a fresh fast food takeaway in the person’s kitchen before the takeaway they ordered arrived. The other was where a person was going to throw a dinner party. A celebrity chef then went to their house for the afternoon showing them how to prepare their dishes for the evening. Oddly enough, I can’t remember the name of either of them!

I’m not sure if some of you will consider this a foodie show, but as food comes from farms, I thought I would post it in case anyone is interested.
Take on the Takeaway was ok but it had it's problems.
The pricing was off because the chef may buy ingredients that would last for months and/or feed many people even if they only used enough for two portions.
Also the takeaways may have pre-prepared food be it pre-marinated or slow cooked meats.

So it wasn't a fair comparison.

Food Fighters hosted by Adam Richman

Anyone watched this? It's in a similar vein to Iron Chef and other shows like that where a home cook takes on a pro.

This is a bit different though as there are 5 rounds.
There are 5 pro chefs - each a specialist in their area.
The contestant names their 5 best dishes to cook and in each round can choose one to go up against the pro chef.

So it's a bit tactical. If the pro chef is known for Italian classics the contestant could choose to do their Indonesian fish tacos and the pro chef would have to produce something similar.

Then 5 average diners choose the best dish.

The prize money goes up each time the contestant wins and if they win all 5 rounds they can win a max of £100,000.

I watched the first ep last night on the NBC website. It's ok but i'm not really into shows of this type. I just gave it a go because of Richman.

The same as I gave Taste a go because of Bourdain.
I watched another episode of this last night and like a lot of US shows, and now speading into UK shows, I got fed up with the sob story.

Ever 5 minutes she was telling us her sob story about losing her job and having to live with her brother.

I don't care. I just want to see what food you cook that can beat that of a professional chef.

Spoilers: She won £100,000. I guess she can shut up about losing her job and living with her brother now!

I'm current watching Top Chef. Its an American cooking contest show. I came across it many years ago one of the cooking channels in the UK. I'm not sure if it still gets shown over here or not, I tend to watch it online. Its a great show - I would definitely recommend it. There is many spin-off from the show as well: Top Chef Master, Top Chef Just Desserts, Top Chef Duels and even Top Chef Canada.

I used to also love watching River Cottage and A Cook on the Wild Side with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall.

For any Floyd lovers the Travel Channel is showing his series.

I think they're just showing them in loops. A few weeks ago it was France and last week Britain.
Next week is France again.

Totally agree. Why the **** is Lisa Faulkner being treated like a professional chef?

Apparently got a net worth of $8million. Not too shabby for a guy who gets the piss taken by some chefs and critics for his appearance and style of food he cooks.

I'm amazed just how much sugar, salt, butter and cream she uses in her recipes.

Mind you, the end results invariably look appetising!

Not so long ago, I used to recall Food & Drink (BBC2) being a really good programme. Has it been dumbed down? Seems like now you get about 2 recipes - with a lot of chat to pad them out and then the obligatory drink slot (that doesn't interest me). I thought it used to be more diverse than that, i.e. perhaps more user friendly - saying what is in the shops now and what to look out for or to avoid?

They had a full format change. It could be a different programme and they're just using the Food & Drink name as prestige.

It still does have some segments inbetween the cooking on different subjects.

Food Network
Tonight (and will be repeated) - Man v Food Nation.
This has been shown on Good Food before.

Tomorrow - Man Finds Food.
Adam Richman's latest food show where he goes to restaurants off the beaten track.

Watched a couple of these now and they are interesting places/locations.

It does get a bit tiresome with him trying to find these locations though, seening as though the researchers would have done it and he has a sat nav.

Jamie's Super Foods starts tonight at 8pm on C4. Good around the world searching out so-called super foods.

Followed by a new series of Food Unwrapped.

For those who like programmes such as Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives but don't have the Good Food Channel, Dave have started showing You Gotta Eat Here which is basically a Canadian equivalent.

I used to enjoy Man v Food a lot, the best parts were when Adam went into the kitchens to see how the food was prepared and stuff

Anyone wondering about a UK version of a show like Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives then I just found out last night that Guy did a London episode. It was one of the late night repeats.

Season 23 Episode 11

and I thought I'd seen them all
