Boyzone - Brother

Sorry if its been posted already, but I couldn't find a post for the new Boyzone album.

Listening to a few tracks, I can't seem to get into it, it just doesn't seem like Boyzone, theres only one track with Gately on it. It just doesn't seem right. I do like the single from it though, very catchy and works well. I think however some of the sound is very Take That and perhaps a little copy cat.

Anyone else have opinions on this album? For me, just not the same without Gately, as is shown in Albums A Different Beat and Said and Done.

I've got the album, and personally i love it (maybe a little biased though, as i am a huge Boyzone fan!)

I think the boyz have done very well. It's a new chapter for them - obviously the sound has changed due to Steo's passing. I do like the fact that Mikey gets lead vocals on a couple of the songs (again biased as he's my fave member), he was actually originally the lead singer with Steo, and then Louis changed it to Ronan and Steo.

I love the new sound!

Ruby should so be the next single. It's so catchy! Definitely my fave song on the album, though i do love them all.

See, I am a huge fan also, have first 3 of their albums, this one I checked out on Spotify before thinking about it. and what you say is correct, Mikey was the original singer, he was on their first single, Working my Way Back to You, which I'm lucky to have on CD! I'll give Ruby another listen, although I can see the marketers thinking its a cover :P

I never realised that. I'm not a Boyzone fan but think Mikey has come over well in DOI.

Actually Stephen is on 2 songs. Gave it all away and Stronger (so the first and the last song on the album)

Releasing the album this week has more to do with it being Stephen's birthday on the 17th March and they want it to be number 1 on his birthday. I agree that mother's day will help the sales, but that wasn't the main reason to release the album this week.

I'm a huge Stephen fan, but I like Mikey too. Shame someone had to die before he was allowed to sing. I always thought that Boyzone would be much better if the lead vocals would be shared equally between Ronan, Stephen and Mikey. Instead it was 70% Ronan, 30% Stephen on most albums and most of their concerts

I agree that most songs sound a bit Take That copy cat. And it's not the same without Stephen's vocals. There are a few songs that are ok and that I like, but with Stephen's vocals on it I would have liked them a lot more.
