There are loads of foxes in my area. My cat has now chased/attacked two (that we know of). Is this something to be worried about.

I am worried that during cub season he could get into trouble.
He was a house cat until recently. Sometimes I wonder if he even knows he's a cat. He isn't good at hunting and just seems to be keeping an eye out for bigger animals.

Anyone else had a problem with this.

My cat would sometimes chase off a fox from the garden. I thought it was quite funny when I saw him to be so bold considering the kind of cat he was. I don't think there is anything to be concerned aboout though. Foxes tend to leave cats alone in my experience and cats will look after themselves generally. Not saying a fox would never attack a cat in retaliation or just attack it anyway without reason but think it's a rarity. An ill or injured cat might be more suspectible to an attack though.

My cat maisey moo attacks dogs she hates them i think she would attack a fox if she saw one we also live in a villiage. I thinks your cat is protecting her area. Not quiet sure how you can stop it though.

Don't forget a big tom cat fighting a fox would be like a Lynx fighting an Alsatian dog.

The cat comes out on top every time. Cats can inflict very serious damage when they mean business.

Foxes being wild predators that rely on being physically fit for their survival will generally not risk getting injured in a fight.

My little she-cat takes advantage of this by regularly chasing big foxes out of the garden. She makes all sorts of menacing noises and stalks them. They look at her as if she's mad then scramble over the fence.

That's reassuring. My cat is a big tom so I guess he will be okay.

We have a family of foxes living under the shed, so my worry was when cubs come along.

I would be careful if the foxes in your garden have cubs. I imagine the mother (& father?) may be very protective towards the cubs & if they perceive that your cat is a threat to their young, they may be far more willing to risk injury & fight back than if it is only their own life & health at risk. An adult fox can just run off but young cubs can't, so the parents may decide to take your cat on.

My cat once poked her nose into a fox's den under a neighbour's outhouse during cub season. She shot out of there pretty fast and didn't try again, no injuries were sustained, apart from to her pride. I've had other cats who chased foxes out of the garden, but both animals usually avoid getting involved in actual physical contact - neither wants to sustain a potentially life threatening injury.

Foxes have a healthy respect for felines but not so for rabbits unfortunately.

When we had our house rabbit, she used to use the cat flap (having seen the cats going in and out and, being super intelligent, she decided to give it a go too). The fox got hold of her twice but, because she was a big girl, they had difficulty in carrying her away so she always managed to escape their grasp.

We thought it was just a fluke the first time it happened but, when it happened again, we had to make sure that she was only allowed in the garden either in a rabbit run or when we were both out there.

It was a shame to curtail her freedom but essential as responsible pet owners. I would never have forgiven myself had she been taken and killed by a fox.

My Cat Jack - an 8 year old, neutered, Bengal cat - is a proper little Thuglet, and is getting worse with age. He is obsessed with squirrels, and will chase them high up into trees. And with Foxes, we have often seen our little spotty guy, firmly attached by his mouth to the tail of a poor fox, while being half pulled along and half chasing it....and we shout after him, and eventually he lets go, and comes over as smug as anything.

It is a worry and we do feel that one day, a fox will stand his ground, but he was a problem cat when we got him from Bengal rescue, and teaching him about climbing in our overgrown garden, and him being outdoors for short spells, and working hard with him, we've completely erradicated most of his bad behaviours. We just can't stop him doing this, and it would be cruel to keep him indoors as he is such a wildcat at heart. He will also chase our long haired, fluffy tailed black and white old cat, when his blood is up - so maybe it's a fluffy tail thing for him! Lol. However, he is very scared of my little black indoor rabbit, when the bunny hops at him to say hello! Lol.

I had a big old neutered tom, he would go and have break-fast with the foxes about 4 doors away, where they fed them, even play with the foxes' tails while they were waiting for food, but if a fox came into HIS garden, then it was flat out chase, and he'd some-time come back with tail hairs on his chin.

Fox hurt a cat, as some-one said, like a dog fighting a lynx, remember there are no hospitals in the wild and foxes no it, if they get injured then they reduce their hunting chances, they are well aware of that and would rather run than fight and risk death thro slow starvation

there used to be a Bengal live near me, now the front of my house is covered with Wistaria right up to the roof, one day I looked out of my bed-room window to see what the noise was, to see the Bengal climbing past my window, my cat ate the time was an in-door cat, agoraphobic, and wasn't in the room to show him, if he'd seen it I wonder what he would have said

As far as I know we don't get them in the garden where we are now.

One of the funniest sights I saw was said cat barring a neigbour's Great Dane from entering her garden. There was absolutely no way she was going to back down even if she was only bite sized! The dog just treated her with total disdain and eventually just walked off....
