Noticed that BBCi Player is now an option on the Menu for BBC REd button Service. Page 7001....

It has been there for almost a week now!

Interestingly, This information has still not been updated on channel 999 - freesat info.

I've noticed page 7001 being available, but in my case only when a network connection is present.

That's how it works Dan. It's the same for all of us. iplayer enabled equipment negotiates with the BBC servers to check for a valid connection and should one exist the web based red button menu is displayed. Should there be no connection or the box isn't enabled for iplayer the standard over the air red button menu is displayed.

So, I have a dumb question - If the presence of a network connection makes the Humax look for a web based red button menu - and then on to a web based iplayer app......

.... could someone clever make it point at something else - like if I had no internet connection it could find a server for MHEG or whatever on a PC on the same LAN and therefore playback video/music etc.....

Hard to describe and I know it would be difficult but does that make sense?!

Not a dumb question at all. We're all sat here waiting for someone to write the firmware to be able to do this..

Indeed, although hacking player firmware would be one thing, tricking the box it into pointing at a dummy server maybe less risk, or easier!

I suppose its the sort of thing Humax would have had to do in development before they could access iplayer for Freesat.

They have updated this page to tell you, to now enter 7001 to access the iPlayer.

I had usually ended the IPlayer connection with changing channels..
but then as i recorded the sequence..a slow run thru.. and
I now know the definitive button to press..
Not seen it mentioned on here before..
