Why do Americans insist on saying "ERBS" instead of "HERBS" ??
"RIS-OH-TOE" instead of "RISOTTO" ??
Does this annoys anyone else ?
What gets on other peoples tits ?

How do you pronounce tortilla and paella? The same, or differently? In this country I almost never hear the latter pronounced correctly. C'est la vie.

Is the OP serious? There has to be another thread about this? Do people really have to hear how there are countries that don't pronounce/spell the same way as England/ The UK?

To answer the original question, yes this annoys me and gets "Under my tits".

Maybe they're trying to approximate the pronunciaton of those words according to how they sound in their original languages; French and Italian?

We all know people who do that. Some are better at it than others, of course.

It's likely they are saying it how we used to say it back in Tudor times.

dont forget we are french neighbours, so why wouldn't you pickup names from there? especially cuisine wise, given how *great* they are at it.

just looked fillet up, and was anglicised over a century ago.

I'm talking about the pronunciation. I'm also being tongue-in-cheek. It doesn't bother me that we pronounce words differently.

People misspelling and mispronouncing the word "pronunciation" as "pronounciation".

Arugala is a variation on the Italian name, like when we say zucchini instead of courgette. Cilantro is Spanish and we refer to the seeds of the plant as coriander. What's wrong with scallions? What's wrong with saying some things differently? Why do they peeve you?

In Ireland they call them scallions. And in some parts of the Caribbean.

If you know what they mean - and you obviously do - why are you peeved about what other people call them?

I know, out of all the things in the world to be peeved about, it does seem a little odd...
