What bands do you like that none of your friends know of, or dislike?

Am off now to see Mandragora Scream, which elicits hoots of laughter from friends. Just as well I'm not all emo - yet.

None of my friends know who they are. My brother does but he doesn't really like them that much.

My mates all hate The Horrors and Friendly Fires

And my mum has made it perfectly clear to me how much she despises My Chemical Romance, Gorillaz and Lostprophets.

a few of my friends like Paramore. But I love them. I've listened to them daily for the last 2 1/2 years and I can't get bored of them. I'm pretty sure I'll be listening to them in 20-30 years time.

A few that spring to mind:

Frightened Rabbit (although their new album, together with me constantly going on about them seems to have potentially converted a couple of people)
Stars (although I did manage to get a club DJ friend to play one of their tracks once, and he was amazed how many people came up to him and asked who it was)
Deus (when they played at Latitude last year everyone else I was with wandered off to see other bands)
Red Light Company (as above)
Mew (as above)
The Joy Formidable (although I'm dragging a mate along to see them in a few weeks time)
Kyte (but then they've not actually released their debut album yet)
Jimmy Eat World (no one else I know seems to like them)

Pretty much every single band I like, since all my friends are into pop-punk bands like Simple Plan and stuff I just can't stand. They think all of Muse's songs sound the same, and I've seen people across the net think the same. Urgh, I just cannot fathom how people can think this, because Muse are one of those few bands where their songs don't sound anything alike. I had to go to their Teignmouth gig alone because I didn't know anyone else (well one of my friends could've gone but he's a miserable bastard who never wants to do anything). Seriously how do people think these songs sound ANYTHING alike?

Same. One of their songs came on in a club once and no one knew it

In fact, very few of my friends like the same music as me.

I've never heard anyone say their songs sound the same. That's shocking, do they have ears?

You have good taste though

Once again Sparkle, I'm agreeing with you (do have a tendency for that!)

And hey DuckSeason, your friends are wrong Carry on with the Muse-loving, imo there isn't a band more deserving!

My music taste is completely different from all my mates. There all into the hip hop, rnb, dubstep, bassline down with the shizow kapow type music. Whilst mine is 80's, synthpop, Rock, Indie, Alternative, Punk and pop!

Florence and the machine
The who
The clash
Elbow
Empire of the sun

are just some of the artists that my mates have no clue of and I'm crazy about!

Babybird. Most people just know You're Gorgeous, then they don't even 'get' that song.
New track Unloveable with Johnny Depp on guitar and Directing video is out now.

None of my mates have ever heard of Robots In Disguise, Tame Impala, Massive Attack, Ladyhawke, Mumford & Sons, Frou Frou (I only know of their song 'Let Go' and that was through Zach Braff's film Garden State), The Wombats, Little Boots. Ellie Goulding and Passion Pit; while they hate Muse, Adam and The Ants (only got 'Dog Eat Dog' because of The Kevin Bishop Show), Guillemots (only have 'Kriss Kross' because of ITV2's FM), Kasabian, Kelly Clarkson, and a few hate Paloma Faith and Tim Minchin.

On the flip side; a few of them love the likes of The Prodigy, U2, Miley Cyrus/Hannah Montana, The Beatles, Metro Station, Joe McElderry, Tinie Tempah (the guy who's #1 atm), John Mayer, JLS, Justin Bieber, Diana Vickers, Papa Roach (never heard of them ), YouMeAtSix, 3OH!3, Owl City and the cast of Glee. Whereas I don't.

It's not really that my friends don't like them, more that they've never heard of them. Missy Higgins, Tyler Hilton, Fefe Dobson, The Wreckers, Gavin Degraw to name a few, and my mates don't know who they are! I'm not ashamed to say that I do love Hanson though, and none of my friends do!

Haha, I clicked on this thread wondering what it was about, read the first post and realised it was probably for cool people with decent tastes in music that go beyond mainstream stuff... I guess I was wrong but I do like her music, too

I listen to a lot of film scores I guess - no one else I know does, or at least not the same ones!

Papa Roach (never heard of them )
Papa Roach were part of the whole 'nu-metal' movement back in the late 90's/early 2000's. You might've heard this song by them on the radio early last decade:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j0lSpNtjPM8

The riff is directly ripped off from one of the parts in Iron Maiden's instrument 'Genghis Khan'. Skip to about 1:47 to hear it:

Yeah tell me about it. Although currently at university a lot of my friends do share a lot of musical tastes with me which is surprising although my friends back home are totally uneducated when it comes to music. There the type that listen to anything that is on Galaxy 105, if not then it's not worth listening to in their minds!

Your friends are weird. How can they hate Tim Minchin?! And Muse?!

Also (side note) Papa Roach used to be one of my favourite bands when I was growing up - I remember singing Last Resort around the playground in Year 5/6 - whether or not it was suitable for a 10yo is another issue!
