Aimee- I've no idea, Tim Minchin is made of win. I met him after a gig last year, and he was so lovely..let me touch his hair. I can't actually fault him, he's talented, hilarious, kind, humble, down-to-earth, honest and gorgeous. What's not to like?
The Muse hate confuses me..fair enough you might not like that particular genre of music, but you can't deny the talent.

Oh my god, you have no idea how jealous I am! I'm back in my Tim-loving obsession (did I ever leave?!) where I distract myself all times of day with watching his videos on youtube. Cannot believe that you met him, I would seriously turn to jelly and just ramble or drool on him. Attractive I know.

Quick question, and I know it's weird - is he tall? I just can't really work it out from seeing him on stage...

Totally agree about all the adjectives you've given him; also wanna add intelligent it's so strange how much sense he talks; every time he opens his mouth I find myself agreeing with him.

I will add AFI to the mix. Out of all the bands I like, this is the one that people tend not to have heard music from and from what I know of my friends, it is very unlikely that they'll ever like them. But I love them.

When I met him he was blatantly tired from the gig, so he was slumped a bit, but he was tall I guess. I'm really short though, so everyone seems tall to me.

I'd expect I'd turn to jelly, but he makes you feel at ease, he talks to you like you've been best friends for years. How I managed to talk sense to him I don't know, but I'm counting my lucky stars. But yeah, such a lovely human being. Smells amazing, and gives the best hugs.

Something I forgot to include: movie soundtracks, usually instrumental. I listen to them all the time, my friends don't know how I can..I reason it's because I create fan-videos.

Everytime I go to a gig I have to explain to people who I'm going to see. Usually go to gigs on my own because no one else has heard of them!

Apart from one friend, who's taste in music mirrors mine, none of my mates like the same sort of stuff as me, and most of them haven't even heard of some of my fave bands from the past like:

Velvet Underground.
Sonic Youth.
Dinosaur Jr.
Hole.
The Wedding Present.
Pixies.
Stereolab.

Hole and Dinosaur jr are touring at the moment I think (although you probably already know this!)

shocking! what age are they? if you grew up in the 80/90s it was practically impossible to be a music fan and not have heard of those bands.

if you want to know a really obscure but excellent 80s band, check out the popguns... their drummer used to be in the wedding present and IMO are even better! ahead of their time and its a crime they aren't better known. a gem in indie jangly-guitar pop music

Yep, sad eh?! They're mostly around my age (35), but they're not music fans really, apart from a couple. That said, in the late 80's/early 90's, when most of the bands I mentioned were 'in' I never took any notice either; I was listening to Acid and Techno, although I took to Nirvana straight away, and was a long-standing Smiths fan. Strange that!

And thanks for the link, some Johnny Marr vibes going on there! I'll take a look at them.

crikey - thats my age and the most of the university bars i went to at that time had sterolab's french disko and the pixies on contineous rotation.

and nirvana's popularity led to people checking out dinosaur jnr, hole and sonic youth.

yeah, t'is strange that, especially as there was so much good indie stuff around that time... charlatans, stone roses, happy mondays, primal scream, st. etienne, my bloody valetine and the entire output of sarah records.. jangly guitar pop never had a better time early 90s were bloody great!

I knew about the Stone Roses and Happy Mondays because they had a crossover to House with the whole 'Madchester' thing, but yeh, looking back it's amazing how I never picked up on that scene at the time, especially seeing how I obviously liked that sort of music even then. I blame it on the drugs. I didn't really start searching out 'alternative rock' or whatever until about 10 years ago, when I listened to a whole Pixies album (Doolittle) for the first time. Shocking!

shocking indeed! the dance stuff was great too, underworld, leftfield, oaky, weatherall, chemical brothers. but indie stuff was great with a spliff too

ever noticed that every so often there is a musical revolution... usually happens at the end of the decade and gives the music scene a much need kick in the ass?

the 50s & early 60s = pop, elvis, beatles
60s - rock, glam, metal
70s - punk, indie
80s - dance, rap

but since dance music there hasn't really been a musical revolution... nothing to radically change things... wonder why not?

theres still a lot of good stuff out there but nothing to breath a breath (or a hurricane) of fresh air into the new releases

This is my life basically! I'm constantly asking friends to come with me to gigs or missing them beacuse I can't find anyone to go with! To be fair though most of the bands I like are only just becoming mainstream, or aren't at all. Bands like;
