Breville Hot Cup

Anyone got one of these care to share your experiences?

I purchased one yesterday and so far am not impressed.

Tea tastes disgusting, almost plasticky / tcp ish.

Not tried coffee yet.

Does the foul taste eventually go?

If so, how long does it take?

I have been filling cups with hot water and throwing it away in an attempt to get rid of the awful taste. No luck so far.

The water does get pretty hot, not quite boiling but close enough.

We use one at home and I'm afraid I haven't noticed any strange tastes whatsoever. In fact would happily recommend it to anyone.

If you have tried boiling it through a couple of times I'm not sure what else to suggest. I am assuming it can't be your water supply because you would have noticed the problems before now.

Never had this taste before and have lived here 10 years.

Only noticed it when using this machine.

It is less noticeable than when we first used the machine, so maybe the taste will eventually disappear.

I have read a few reviews which mentioned the funny taste. Most said it went away after 1 or 2 refills, some took it back for a refund.

I must have used about 17 full loads (34 litres) and it still tastes disgusting, but as I said is a bit better.

I think I will give it until the weekend before considering seeking a refund.

Just had a thought....

We do live in an area that has very hard water.

Perhaps this machine needs softer water as it boils the water very quickly. Never had this problem with our kettle though.

I do have a water softener, but the main kitchen cold tap is unsoftened. Perhaps I will experiment with water that is softened?

Does it connect to your mains water? Or do you fill it up? If you fill it up, maybe you could invest in a Brita water filter, see if that makes any difference. Although maybe you'll then have two things to return!

I tried using water from the hot tap which is softened and it was better, but we could still detect the taste.

But...............

We have now reverted to unsoftened water and this morning I had a cup of tea and could not detect that foul taste at all.

So hopefully it just needed time to 'bed in' or whatever.

Anyway, we will make a decision on Monday whether we kep it or not.

I do have a filter jug somewhere, so will dig that out and try using water from that if the taste returns.
