I was reading The Sun today when I came across this article:

http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage...ed-killer.html

Can't really believe they allowed him to be shown on the show. Obviously this isn't Danny's fault, and in no way do I think less of him - as he obviously can't control his fathers actions...but the fact that his dad was allowed to go on the show and 'train' Danny to 'fight' is a little...weird!

What are your thoughts ?

That is totally wrong - ITV should never EVER have allowed him to feature on the VT. Especially not given the sort of VT it was!

No wonder the relatives of his victim are pissed off.

I totally agree !!!!!!

Considering it was his 'fighting' that lead to him murdering a guy...

So so crazy !!!

And should you be posting since that obviously counts against you?

To be honest, I'm torn on this one.

On the one hand, I can sympathise with the guy who died's family - it must have been a nasty shock to see him pop up on screen.

On the other hand, there are definitely points that mitigate the shock they felt:

1. If I were Danny and my dad was a fitness trainer and I was doing a boxing-style activity, I'd very naturally ask him for help - and if I were Jack, I would have wanted to give that help.

2. You don't get jailed for 21 months for manslaughter unless there are some circumstances in your favour. Manslaughter can carry a penalty of life, so whatever brought the sentence down to under 2 years must have been important.

3. The man served his sentence and the Sun didn't dig up anything else on him, so he seems to have been blame-free since then. I think we could say it's OK for him to be on TV under the 'everyone deserves a second chance' theory.

Okay, so would you be happy if ITV got a convicted rapist to give advice to one of the contestants on how look seductive on the ice...? Second chance and everything...

I don't think Danny is blameless on this, to be honest. He should have known that it was inappropriate given his father's conviction. It's not some minor offence. I wouldn't have minded so much if it was just some general VT about his parents, but given the context it was completely unacceptable.

Oh, and Cobaltmale, if you're going to get annoyed when people post stories about Dancing on Ice in the Dancing on Ice forum, then you're probably best not to read it in the first place!

None of us have, that's why we are on a forum, and on this forum we discuss everything connected to the show.

Would be interesting to hear your views on the topic rather than your views on the OP's life.

I think I kind of agree with you, I also thought the word killer was not justified, because it's sounds like a tragic end to a pub fight gone wrong.

However, I'm not sure whether it is a good idea to let him appear on the show in this context (e.g. boxing and punching).

Doesn't change my opinion of Danny though.

Yes, I would. If they'd committed the offence ten years ago, served a sentence for it, remained crime-free ever since AND got themselves into a position to be offered such work, then I would have no hesitation in saying it was OK.

Besides, people like you would drum them out of their house and subject them to a lifetime of misery, so I think they'd probably need all the support they could get.

And if anyone should have said 'no, I'm not going to do it' it should have been Jack, not Danny, who made that call. But they say you'll do anything for your kids - and if that meant risking his own reputation for Danny's, perhaps that was how he saw it.

Look, I don't even watch the show but I'm dismayed that when the printmedia (and DS) is manipulated into running what is basically a non-story that the DS posters take it hook, line and sinker.

Cheryl Cole are two words I would use here.

Er, wtf?!? I just don't think people convicted of extremely serious violent crimes should be celebrated on the television as people to look up to, especially in relation to the type of action that caused the damage in the first place. Doesn't mean I want them run out of their homes.

How was what he did 'risking his reputation' for Danny? Risking his reputation as a violent killer? He was more risking Danny's reputation than his own.

Good point, and I agree with you to a certain degree. I just wish you had made this point in your first response to the OP, because it would have been more obvious where you coming from.

I'm sure that you will find that quite a few people on here will agree with you anyway. In some of the other threads we have actually discussed how thoroughly fed up we all are with some of the media manipulation in and around the show this year.

I wish that were the case.

After too many years here it appears not.

Er, quite a few actually.

If you believe the story is untrue in some way, why don't you tell us what they've got wrong?

Wasn't there an actor from (I think) Eastenders who did time in prison for murder, so if it's ok for him to act I don't see the difference.

There have been plenty of true stories printed in the paper about reality TV stars. Why wouldn't there have been?

I'm not saying anything is untrue - you're REALLY missing the point - but why are you interested and why should it matter?

I'm not missing the point. You've indignantly claimed that this is media manipulation, but you haven't explained why.

I've explained exactly why I think this is a perfectly legitimate story, and why I think ITV, and Danny, got this totally wrong.

Er, what???

Don't tell me you didn't actually bother to read the story, before you came on here to condemn people for discussing it?! Oh the irony...
