Microsoft Courier... yes please

OMG – I'm not sure if you have had the pleasure in viewing the Microsoft Courier but it looks amazing; the iPad has a serious contender on its hands. However I feel that the two products offer completely different functions, the iPad is a multimedia/entertainment tool, whilst the Courier is a ‘work friendly’ glorified notebook with multimedia capabilities.

I think the progression of natural user interface technology should persuade software companies to encourage us to develop more relevant natural skills and enable new technologies. The Global Graphics Blog explains it in more detail... http://bit.ly/GlobalGraphicsBlog

I like the look of the Courier. I think more people will opt for that over the iPad due to the iPad being a jack of all trades jobbie and not necessarily good at one thing (business use).

The Courier looks fantastic, and that's coming from a Mac fan. Only problem is that it doesn't exist.

I'm not going to be getting an iPad, I'd have no need for it, but if the Courier ever gets past the design stage, I may be interested in at least having a play with one.

This source seems to think it does.

There's a fascinating dialogue taking place on some of the US sites. The overwhelming approach of Mac fans is to say that of course it looks good but everything does at the planning stage and history has shown that Microsoft could never produce anything as good as this. In other words, by the time it comes out it'll be totally different.

Fingers crossed this one makes it past the line intact. After all the hoopla, it'd be seriously sweet to see the least likely of the competitors not only take on the iPad but sail straight past it.

On a separate tack - the folding 2 screen approach to pads will be the future IMO. HP have already announced they're heading down this road as well...

It states a vague launch date of Q3/ Q4. It doesn't, however, state which year

I read somewhere else that it would be November this year. Quite how anyone knows that I have no idea - I'd take it with a pinch of salt.

To be fair I have been hearing about similar devices for a year or so now.
Problem is how will the battery last with 2 colour screen.
Qualcomm may have the solution and I am looking for ward to see it:

as the next link shows they have been developing it for some time!

Ah, even better. Certainly looks very, very interesting, and could tempt me to open my wallet when/if we see it over here.

This seems like the perfect device for me, as a PhD student.

I'm constantly jotting down ideas and working through examples, all of which I currently do in a paper notebook. But that will eventually run out, and I'll have to start a new one...and another...and another.

The Courier would keep on going, and allow me to shift stuff onto my PC or laptop. It also has the advantage of being able to take earlier stuff and bring it to now, should I stumble across a link somewhere.

It would also be brilliant for my supervisor's request that I e-mail him notes of meetings: I'd just have to jot everything down as the meeting is in progress and send off the page.

The only problem could be with it trying to recognise my abysmal handwriting

I suspect that you coudl turn of test recognition an just leave your hand writing as hand writing. Thus leaving the recognition to you or whoever you send it to
